There has been some discussion on extending the trail to Wakefield whether or not it is open I'm not sure. However I do know the trail is open to Merinesco.

Iron River Trail

The Trail from Iron River is open all the way to Marenisco. It also goes east of Iron River to Crystal Falls and southeast along the Brule River toward Florence Wisc. On the trail going east to crystal Falls, "Trail 16", there is a washout at a bridge crossing the Baker Creek. This is apx. 2 miles east of Iron River and 1/4 mile west of Bates Gaastra road. It is possible to get around it using County roads though. We are working with the Michigan DNR to provide funding for the repair. As for Marenisco to Wakefield, the Mi-Trale organization has been working on extending trails in all directions in that area and you might want to check with them on there progress.

Iron River to Crystal Falls

The washout at the bridge at Baker Creek was repaired on Friday Sept. 2. So it is now all clear to ride the entire trail without any re-route or detour! Also that trail, Trail #16, Iron River to Crystal Falls is scheduled for grading this fall. The work will be done by Oct. 15. For any other information about trail conditions in Iron County you can also call (906) 875-3117. Or when you are in our area, stop in at The Chippewa Resort located right on Trail #16 "The Chippewa Trail" with direct trail access right to the parking lot!

I was wondering if there is a legal route to get frome Wakefield to Marenisco?I heard there is a way.It looks as if the Mi-trale map would not show this route.I have a house in Ironwood and a couple buddies coming up with more sxs that want to head that way.

Do not Grade trail #16. I have not rode this trail but I have rode most trails in Wisconsin. They are being ruined by grading them. Atv'ers want natural terrain, we can ride gravel roads at home. The proof is meeting and talking with everyone along the trails. They are either heading for the trails with some mud or coming from the mud trails.

I'll still come up to snowmobile but for atving I have started to look into Tennesse and West Virgina to trail ride.

Just my 2 cents. I know everyone prefers something different.
