Is battery needed in Polaris with electric start?

I have an 06 Fusion 600 with electric start. The battery was bad when I got it and eventually I just left it out - I don't mind just pulling the cord and I'd don't feel like buying a battery and then having to maintain it, etc.. I was told I could end up causing electrical issues by doing so. Is this true? I've probably put on about 2000 miles since I pulled it out.

Buddy has a 2003 600 Po No battery during our whole trip a few weeks back.
Pull the MFr and have fun and be safe.
