TRAIL TRUTH
MARQUETTE AREA
Trail 8E Champion to Ishpheming Sunday, was low snow, somewhat groomed 8E to417E low snow, ok grooming, trail 417E around Marquette, not alot of snow-----way too many big " diggers" in the mountain areas---trail needs to have these ground out and flattened, if for nothing else, safety.
Some real idiots (I'm assuming from the college) decided to have a "climb Mt. Marquette" contest with their SUV's and 4 by 4 trucks on the east side of the mountain trail......made a mess out of the trail and got 5 of them stuck at various elevations! nothing that a few $3,000.00 tickets for being on the snowmobile trail wouldn't take care of!!
Trail 417E to Lakenland on the grade was fair.
All these trails were better coming back through on Tuesday, more snow and grooming.
There is a new way to access trail 14N to Big Bay out of Marquette. You go past the gas station intersection and take the next intersection left. its a better road crossing on the 4 lane highway.
