Is there some kind of unamed weather pattern, that has caused jet stream to stay north all winter? A friend of mine went snowmobiling in Canada and a person told him that the weather pattern does not have an explanation.Seems odd how Europe and Alaska have had such extreme winter weather.

We just do not know enough about the weather to be able to explain why the jetstream likes to stay "stuck" in the same relative position for extended periods of time and bring about the unusual weather anomalies seen this winter and in any time period in the past. Perhaps some day, but for now we are at a loss.
