I would have fired him last year but had to be done IMO. Jim Schwartz knows talent & can put a good team together but ball control & turnovers burned him every game. Lovie could do wonders with this team on D the O already good just play calling SUCKED.Who will get the job???

Doesn't matter who gets it. Players, coaches, GM's, defensive schemes, offensive schemes, etc. have all come and gone through the years with the same dismal result. The one thing that hasn't changed is the ownership. Until the Fords decide to sell to somebody who is serious about putting out a competitive product, it will be the same ol' same ol'. Sadly, fans (and I'm not one of them) are so hungry for a winner that every year they buy into the hype and hope and fill the stadium. Ownership has no incentive to put out a quality product. When somebody comes along who is serious about building a competitor, I'll be happy to be a Lions fan. Till then, no dice.

Man, I think the lions have most of the pieces of the puzzle in place. Very good D line, very good offense front to back. Franchise QB, best receiver in the game, decent 2 and 3 wideouts, usable TEs, 2 very capable RBs. What more do they need??? Oh yeah, a good coach. Schwartz is not a good coach.

IMO, if they want to really be contenders, they need a good offensive minded disciplinarian coach. That coach will need to bring in a top d-coordinator.
They need to get with the program soon too. Not saying the lions are old, but they aren't getting any younger.

JMHO, personally I hope they keep sucking, better for the Packers.

Edit, Ken Whisenhunt would be a good fit, but as brilliant as they are they will probably hire Jack Del Rio.

They definitely need a disciplinarian. Discipline has never been their strong point. But the last time somebody tried to be one (Marinelli) the players cried and the union stepped in. Apparently they, too, are content with mediocrity.

We've been through this song and dance so many times before it's as regular as clockwork.

No matter how bad the Vikings are, there are usually 2 wins they can count on every year.

I think Staford is in the same mold as Romo, can't count on him when you need him.

Well since we are on the topic of Jim Schwartz, lets just state that under his reign, the Viqueens have only swept MY Lions twice and we have swept them once (2011). So......

As far as Schwartz being fired? As a lifetime Lion fan that was born into the yearly disappointments, I say it came at least a year too late. Shoulda' been done last year.

They need to hire a head coach that is a true QB coach that can harness Stafford's hard head and ability. A QB coach with discipline and toughness, maybe a Jon Gruden???? Look what he did with Oakland and then TB. Both of those teams had pieces of the puzzle but no head coach to tie it all together and look at their success while he was in those respective cities. Heck, the year after he left Oakland, they met his new TB team in the Super Bowl.

And heres a stat that proves the Detroit Lions are an undisciplined team and need guidance: In the last four years they have lost 18 games by 5 or less points (mostly less) and four of them in OT. That is ¼ of their games. Not a fun stat for me or any other Lion fan, but it is a revealing one.

BRING ON THE 2014 SEASON!!!!!!

The players have to buy into being coached by a disciplinarian (much like the Wings did when Scotty Bowman came to town). Until they do, they will be content with mediocrity and the same predictable result will stay in place.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I know, Schwartz wasn't in charge of personnel. That's the GM and scouts jobs.

I don't believe Schwartz was the play caller either, was he?

IMO Schwartz will be lucky to be coaching special teams....

I'm talking about when Schwartz first hired on & brought Detroit to a competitive level via trades & free agents from nothing. He was not a head coach more of a NFL talent scout which paid off at first. As far as play calling he said a week ago live by big play or die by big play ...well we know how that ended. lol

Not sure what the interest in Lovie is. I think he'd make a great coordinator but he had his chance as a head coach.

Lovie good in the locker room guys want to play for him. TB needs to get locker room mended & Lovie can do that. Lovie needs good O coordinator & he will be OK. Lovie has a winning record & da beas did better with him than without him. Trestman has the weapons on O but D was worst in the NFL steep decline from Lovie & owners see that. Not many owners happy with their D in NFL & why Lovie got job this year quickly.
