A customer of mine came in and those of us that have been in the sport for a while have probably owned a snowmobile with a JLO engine in it, this customer kept pronouncing it E-LOW, Ive always just said or thought it was J-L-O. Is it pronounced E-LOW?

I've never heard it any other than J-L-O. I know a person who sold Scorpion sleds with the Rockwell (J-L-O) engines. In fact as I recall now, Scorpion bought that engine line from Rockwell, and renamed the engines Cuyuna? I'll ask him, and perhaps Kip can answer this as there shop has worked on about any sled ever built over the years? I believe Massey Ferguson snowmobiles perhaps also used the Rockwell J-L-O engines?

He claimed it was a german name and thats how it was pronounced, I had a bolens that had one in it as well as a scorpion TK than had the Cuyuna, I knew it was a "JLO" Interesting that possibly Scorpion bought the line and changed the name.

Rockwell was world wide, so it's possible they were produced in Germany. Perhaps the J-L-O company was bought out by Rockwell. Just got a hold of this info. J-L-O, or also known as I-L-O, originated in Germany in 1911. Rockwell bought the company in 1968. AC, and Polaris also used some of the J-L-O engines. Scorpion bought them and renamed the engines Cuyuna.

That is how I remember it. As I first learned of JLO engines was in older vintage motorcycles. A guy dropped a “750” JLO engine in his sled and would ride along side two guys drag racing to determine the winner.
We had a JLO in the family's first snowmobile, an Arctic Cat Panther. I always heard it pronounced Jay-Low. But when it wouldn't start Dad had other names for it. My Dad had quite the vocabulary of Cuss Words.

I was born and raised on Scorpions. We still have 2 of them, including a 1974 Super Stinger that was purchased new for my mom. It has always been J L O , around here. I have never heard of E L O.

Back in the 60's when my dad was in the snowmobile business as a manufacturer they always said e-low but the people that I rode with always said JLO, I do think that e-low is how the company pronounced it

J-L-O started producing motorcycles in the late 1920's, early 1930's. Became known for their very reliable engines.

I thought this thread was about J-LO (Jennifer Lopez) and potentially A-rod.

Good one! The J-Lo came to my mind, but not the A-rod, eh!
