Gary, thanks for the link. And John, thank you for providing the forecast. However, I'm disappointed that you are predicting poor sledding in Louisiana and Florida this winter :(

Sounds like a catch can winter for sledding. Fortunately my schedule allows for hitting the trails when conditions are good. Imo no point going up north if conditions aren’t good just wait it out. Try to get others scheduled too if possible but riding alone better than no riding at all. 👍

Some years ago, I started keeping a Snowmobile Journal for each winter recording the trips, weather, etc. John references the winter of 2014/15 in his current outlook. The following is from that year's journal entry.

A Cold November with about 6” of snow on the ground locally. By December 1rst the Jet Stream is flat with normal temps and no storms or precip. John Dee says a possible El Nino is forming.
There were no major storms and the most snow on the ground locally was probably 6 inches or so. Winter storms traveled south of us and then swung north into New England where they had Record Snows for the winter of 2015.

Well, I'm holding out hope for central WI, as John noted! We've been dry all season(until the last 2 weeks), and due for some average or above average snows.

Agree with Gary on 14-15. I checked my logs. Stevens Point had 12” at Thanksgiving time.
December had 0.2” of snow for entire month. Cold to start, but got warmer.
There was one big snow storm in North IIl, S WI early Feb, that we were able to get riding in for one weekend.
February was 5th coldest on record. 4% of month was above freezing. 10% was under 0. Basically no snow after that 1st snowfall.

I travelled to Houghton 3 times that year, snow chasing.

A bit depressing but we always trailer to the snow. Might have to be more flexible on dates or how far we travel. Probably wouldn't count on great late seasons conditions like the past 2 winters.

I predict a lot of climate change hand ringing for sure!
