Why is it that John has to get me so excited??? I am right in the very SE corner of MN and in the middle of all of that snow that is forecasted. Funny thing is though none of the local stations are forecasting it. Ever seen that before??

I've seen it before, the rain/snow line is a hard target to hit because the freeze line is running right along the line where most of the moisture will be. Hard to tell if it will be rain or snow based on upper atmosphere air temps. If the precip does happen to fall as snow, it will be a metric butt ton (technical term). As far back as Monday, one of the main meteorologists in the Chicago area was posting online that one of the European forecasting models was showing a 20" snowstorm that followed a track from NE Missouri into Chicago and towards Detroit. The track is similar now it just moved north about 100 miles. All of the models must not be in full agreement as JD alluded to in his forecast, that is why most of your local stations are not updating their forecast. I'm just an amature weather watcher but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, so JD can do a much better job of discussing the weather pattern stuff.

you makin fun of me? :)

Not makin fun jonesin, I was in your shoes yesterday when JD made me think I was going to be playing in the snow this weekend, now it looks like I will be able to hold a grass drag in my front yard after this storm is over. I have about 6 " of snow on the ground and it looks like we will lose it.

What a difference a day makes! Those of us in SE WI were thinking we were going to be doing some local testing/ridin too yesterday...

To far away to get excited just yet. But as far as the local guys not saying anything about it, that is normal. JD has made me look smarter than the local weather forcasters many times. This storm reminds me of the big one a few years ago in December. Everytime I checked it was a little further north and a little stronger. Ended up with 2 feet with that one.

I agree. Called the shop (to get my damn sled done) immediately after seeing John's update yesterday afternoon. The guys at the shop were completely un-aware and thought I was crazy. Not the first time I've talked to "locals" who thought I was losing it when I mentioned there was a storm brewing. Two days later, I look pretty dang smart to them. It's all a guessing game, but John has been right more than others I've tracked!!!

Just as I thought. Moved the storm to the south and now we arent' gonna get diddly crap.... BOOOOOOOO!!!

From the metro area south to the Iowa border, we are in a bad spot this year. Every storm is either north or south of us by a 100 miles or so. I have seen many years where we don't get good snow early but I don't think I have ever seen a year where everyone north, south, east and west of us have gotten snow but somehow it has eluded us. More than frustrating. But don't worry we picked up are usual dusting overnight.
