I just bought an open faced (like a motocross style) helmet and need reccomendations for a balaclava/liner to work with the helmet/goggle set-up.
Thanks!

For those no fog masks, do you still use the helmet's breath deflector? I am thinking of the one in a closed face helmet.

I use the fog evader from dennis kirk part #35-00352 with a balaclava underneath and am able to ride in the 20's below zero when needed and don't have any issues. I have a klim and arctiva balaclava and both work well. I just recommend finding one you like with the smallest hole for your eyes that you can, so goggles seal over the edges and you have no exposed skin in the temple area. That has always been my weak spot with the open faced helmet.

Klim arctic balaclava. best money you can spend for yourself. With this there is no need to wear another breath deflector and it seals tight around your eyes to keep ALL your face warm. Been riding in down to -10 this winter and my face is warm (only part of me lol). the fit and finish is second to none. And after an entire season it hasn't stretched out at all. still fits like day 1.

The breath box is not needed with the no fog mask. No fog also sells a separate piece to cover the temple area. In real come weather that's the one spot I can feel the cold. I haven't use that yet because it hasn't been cold enough yet since I got it.

No Fog for sure. Was up on the Ride-In weekend and it was cold. Went to see Chad on Friday morning at M&M thinking about getting a new helmet as I had a lot of trouble with my lens frosting up on Thursday. I was going to ride with some guys Friday and didn't want to be the guy slowing everyone down because I couldn't see anything. While he would have been happy to sell me a new helmet he suggested I try the No-Fog first. He said it would work with my closed helmet, but if I came back and still wanted the open face it would work great with that too. So instead of spending $200+ I started out with $35 and it was great. Later that day I went back to buy another one to bring home to my son and Chad had sold out that day. Ended up telling some other guys about it and we ordered 5 of them from Dennis Kirk. We were all up on Presidents Day weekend and everyone said they were great. Some guys had open helmets, others had closed and no one had a complaint. Yes you do take the deflector out of the helmet, and it's not as quick to put on and off as a balaclava, and sometimes I ended up leaving my helmet on when we stopped as it's a little more of a pain to pull a closed face helmet down over it, but I have to say for the money it's one of the best things I've bought in the past few years. I still wore a thin balaclava under it as I like the feel of a balaclava all around my head but I'm sure you could go with just the No Fog and be happy if you'd like.

I wish they would have come out with that a year before they did. I bought the regular Klim face mask, and found it to be too short, so I bought the covert. I find that one to be a little cold in certain conditions, although the quality is good. I bet the arctic one would be perfect, but I'm spending any more on klim facemasks until the others wear out!

You guys with the no fog - do you feel it gets "slimy" from moisture during your day's ride/when stopping for food? I wore a no fog for a few years and they do work well but I hated how it felt slimy against my face... Especially when putting it back on after stopping.

I've not issues like that, but like I said, I still where a thin balaclava under the No Fog. Only place it gets wet is right at the mouth but no more than a breath deflector, and that's only if I pull the balaclava down under my chin.

I have a no fog that i wear all the time and for the really cold days or when riding a lot of grades, i have a klim covert that i put on. The covert/no fog combination works very well other than the fact that its kind of a lot of "pieces" you are putting together and i notice when stopped that i fog up quicker with the covert on versus off.

No problem with slim building up, but always wear a balaclava. I always make sure to air out when stopped at a pit stop, not leave them stuffed in my helmet.

I have really liked my Ski-Doo Mountain balaclava. It has a built in neoprene breath deflector which works well to deflect your breath and keeps the material from touching your mouth preventing the wet feel on your mouth. The price is decent too; about $25.
