Keeping Registartion Stickers on, good tricks??

It seems my Michigan registration stickers fell off sometime riding over the holidays. It was probably better than 50 degrees when I put them on on the lower corners of the pieces covering the clutch area on one side and brake area on the other on my M8. Well they either were stolen or both fell off (i'll assume the later). Any special tricks people use to make sure they stay on? This next time it'll be cold but could use a blowdryer or something I guess. Figure just clean with windex or something and stick them down but then again that didn't seem to work last time.

On the corners you can put a little nail polish. I did this on my quadrunner which was subject to a powerwash or two.

Clean, warn area with blowdryer, apply sticker, cover with clear packing tape as found in shipping wearhouses.

We have the large Michigan Stickers as well, on our M's I just used a hair dryer to warm the plastic side panels, ensure the sticker itself was at least room temperature, then applied them. Provides a great bond and will last

With Pressure sensitive adhesive backed decals it is always nice to have a warm surface to get the adhesive to flow into the rougher surface of the side panel; Also ensure it is clean and oil free. You could also spray a little 3M Super 77 onto the surface or decal before applying; but probably not necessary.

On my 01 doo I had alluminum plates made that I pop riveted to the belly pan, put the sticker on there and haven't lost one in 9 years

The trick that the dealers use is a mini torch, just waft it over the cleaned area were you want it for a second or 2 and stick it on. if it is on a non painted plastic surface. It burns the mold release gases off that make the stickers peal easy. You can also put some 3M clear chip guard over the #s too, just make it a half inch bigger all around. My IQ side panels take a good thrashing down low and my reg. #s are at the very bottom edge. good luck.

Spray brake clean on a rag and wipe area couple times then heat with whatever you have, hairdryer, heat gun, propane torch, before applying stickers. Brake clean removes all contaminates and completly disapates. Be careful and test area first as the chemical might remove paint and dull plastic. Test first and only use where you'll be putting the sticker. My .02 worth.

It's difficult to get stickers to live on the lower side belly pans of a M if you're like most and have it laid over on its side in the snow along with endless running over and off of trees. Even my stock amber reflective stickers are peeling off...Guess I need to ride more trail.

My MI sticker is on top of the hood (Mr. Dee copied me).

After cleaning, I put the stickers on, then make X marks with a knife. IF someone tries to peel the stickers off they'll tear the sticker.

I've been putting them on belly pans on Yamahas for more than 10 yrs. and never lost one yet (knock on wood).........warm the area with hair dryer after cleaning; and here's the only difference I see to others......go back over the applied sticker with the hair dryer. Seems to almost make the plastic sink into the pebble grain finish.

As I said, haven't lost one yet and I ride in a good bit of brush frequently.

YMMV!
