Gotta quick question. How do you adjust the idle on keihen carbs? Is it just the large screw with the black knob on the side of the carbs?

Yup thats the one, however make sure the screw turns...
I did this a # of yrs ago on a 99 rmk 700 & the screw broke off in the carb body, still works just cant adjust that side. On another note You usually dont have to mess with them much, my guess is you have a clogged pilot jet, or the cables are strecthed. Good luck!

You most likely could us a new spring behind the idle screw to keep tension on screw if idle keeps changing. I have only had Keihin carbs or carb on older 2 stroke Yamaha's. Makunis on my Poos. same spring idea. Never had a black knob, but hey I haven't owned them all. just a screw driver type screw on my stuff. Follow throttle cable down to carb and it is that screw you want.

I don't think it's a clogged jet as I just had them all out and cleaned them. The stretched cables could be an issue though. It's my brothers 2000 and hasn't been ran in 4-5 yrs. (and sank multiple times in it's last yr or so of running) When I did get it started it wouldn't idle at all unless I kept on the throttle and the issue there was the safety swith on the throttle kept killing the sled. So i lubed the cables and now that is fixed but still idles awfully high. I'll try to turn down the idle tomorrow night and see if that does it. Any way to adjust the cables if they are stretched?

If the cables were stretched, you would not have a high idle problem. If that were the case, you would find that the flipper would not open the carbs all the way. You have something else going on. Maybe as easy as turning the idle screw down.

Sorry, I thought you were trying to bring idle up. Also if it has been sitting like you say, I've seen the diaphram on the fuel pump go bad & send gas right into the crank case. That will give you a high idle also. But motor_slut has some good points also. Do the carb clean trick on all gaskets, seals, & carb boots.

Thanks for the help everybody. I did adjust the idle screws on it last night and did get the idle turned down. Purrs nicely now. Now I just need some snow to get out and run it and then I can give it back to him so he has no excuse to not go riding with me this year!
