Kill Switch Not Working......2005 Renegade 600 h.o.

Well, this is the first major problem I've had on my sled so far. I rode saturday and had no problems whatsoever. My switch was working fine all day. Sunday rolls around and I decide to go backcountry riding so I fire up my sled, ride to my friends house and hit the kill switch when I get there and nothing happens. It keeps on running so I flipped it back and tried it one more time. This time a few dashboard lights came on and it wanted to quit but didn't so I moved it back to on and pulled my tether.

Went riding and for the first half of the ride the sled ran great but the switch still wasn't working and would have to pull the tether each time to kill it. But, the second half of our ride was a different story. My sled felt like it was hesitating. I'd have it at 1/4 throttle just holding steady and then all of a sudden it would take off like normal. It was idling normal when started up every time while out riding (1500 rpm). I also noticed that the light that comes on when you touch your brake or have the brake set didn't come on when I pulled the brake lever. I got back to the trailer and hit the kill switch and it worked but it took a couple seconds to work.

Here's where it gets weird. We pulled the sled into the garage, again the kill switch didn't work. We put a heater in there to dry things out. I fired it up and now it's idleing at 1000 rpm (usually it's 1500) the lights on my dash are lit up but it's not beeping at me. It just sounds like garbage. I could blip the flipper and get the rpm needle to jump up and bring it out of that initial start up phase but then it would idle back down to 1000 and the lights would come back on. I changed out my plugs but it did the same thing. I was able to put it in reverse and get it out of the garage and once outside it idled fine at 1500 rpm but again the kill switch did not work to shut it off.

Is this a bad kill switch problem or a combination of that and something else electrical? I've got some gremlins going on for sure. Any thoughts are much appreciated.

Thanks,

Pat

Believe it or not I don't believe the idle/running issue is related to your kill switch. I have the same sled. I also had the same problem with my kill switch. Mine does it intermitently, and spraying a little lube may help, or taking it apart and applying some dielectric grease. Mine seems to "fix itself" so I don't worry too much about it.

As for the ideling, have you tried just adjusting your idle adjustment screw? I have found that without the SDI or etec that you need to adjust your carburators i.e. idle adjustment depending on conditions (very cold vs. warm moist air, etc.) In one trip in Canada, I adjusted it (just a 1/4 turn) to pick up the idle just enough to get it to run right and have the "beep" engage.

The idle adjustment screw is a big star-looking knob (about 3/8 ") across that sits on top of your carbs. You should only have one to adjust both carbs.

Good luck, hope that helps?

I don't really have any background on these sleds. But usually I think the kill switch would complete a ground to stop engine. I would try checking for any loose or dirty ground connections. This could also be the performance issues.
On one of my arctic cats the ground wire was bolted to a painted surface.
That doesn't really make for a good ground.

My wifes 2005 GTX 600 HO had issues with the kill switch. Ran wierd when it did not work right too. Take the switch apart you will see plastic that gets between the contacts, scrape out the plactic switch should work.

x2 plastic on switch contacts... Check throttle, oil pump, choke cables. Carbs may need cleaning. Dootalk is also an excellent forum for tech problems (all skidoo forum)
