Kill Switch

My snowmobile as no spark. How do I check if the kill switch is working? My trailer had this snowmobile on board when the wicked wind on August 10th turned the trailer upside down. Did not hurt the snowmobile much, only cracked windshield and scuff marks on the hood. The sled is a Polaris 2002 550 engine sport touring.

If you have an ohm meter you can check for continuity and check to see if it changes state. From memory should be OL in run position and have a reading in off position.

Unplug it. Same for key switch.

I may be wrong, not familiar with this particular model but isn't there also a switch in the throttle lever block itself as well? maybe something got knocked out of place or tweaked in rollover and this switch is not functioning as it should.

I believe euphoric1 is correct ,it's a safety switch so if throttlecable breaks it kills engine. some times they stretch and creates a no start situation. try putting slight throttle tension on lever and see if it starts.

Simply unplug the kill switch, do not disconnect the ignition, you won't get very far without that working. I don't know if it would be the throttle positioning sensor, that is activated by throttle return. A good starting point is d/c the kill switch. -Mezz

I have figured out that the kill switch is ok but I have another problem with the sled. The tank is loosing gas which probably because of the wind which turned the trailer upside down and probably damaged the tank. This sled is a 2002 Polaris Sport Touring and I need to examine the tank for repair or new. What is the procedure to have access to the tank? Any help is much appreciated!!!

Pulling the seat is a start, not really familiar with what else needs to be removed other than the gas line, should be easy to figure out. -Mezz

Seat off. Bracket two bolts hold tank on. Easy!!
