Trail 14 from Big Bay to L'anse was perfect on Saturday. There is a trail to the top of Mt. Arvon, just follow the signs.

I checked an old GPS from 2013 - not sure if the trail has change but... it took us 1h18m from leaving L'anse to the peak of Mt. Arvon which was 24 miles.

Really not that great of a trail to Mt Arvon groom usually not that good more of an afterthought type of groom not super groom like 14. Used to be a sign up book at top but just a bunch of big trees at the turn around. Better to not over sell it to buds so they don’t overexpect nothing like LOC or Brockway. Better route would be BB then loop back on 8. 5 south to 8 very pretty lots varied terrain and fun to ride.

MI DNR does now allow clubs to groom dead end trails (unless they were grandfathered in before the rule was established). That is the reason why the trail to top of Mt Arvon not groomed. Local club might hit it on their own, but dicey to do so, because if they have a major breakdown, they are on their own to get fixed vs. a major breakdown on the state trails.

WD mentioned Brockway Mountain. Another two with great overlooks are the far west end of the UP. Both are in the Porcupines Wilderness State Park. Lake of the Clouds and Summit Peak. LOTC is just up the road from White Pine and then a short walk from the parking area to the lookout. Summit Peak is off trail 11 (South Boundary Rd). It too is a walk from the parking area to the overlook, but there is even a tower there to climb for the best view. If it's not snowing, all of these are a must for jaw dropping.

I was up to LOC last week and it was a nice sunny day, unusual for up there. We could see for miles. I've been up there many times, but usually it is very cloudy and hazy or snowing hard. I thought about going up to Summit Peak as I have before, but there was a no snowmobiles sign at the road leading up there. Too bad, it's a great view also.
