I'm feeling much better with the snow starting to fall all over the North Woods…but still worried about the lack of ice on the lakes! I am going up in 3 weeks for the first trip and worried ice will not be thick enough – thoughts??
We were hoping to make it up north too and i am also concerned about lake trails being open by them...my guess is they won't be. Anyone else have thoughts on this?
The ice could be thick enough depending on temps. The real problem is if there is a thin layer of ice with a bunch of insulating snow on top. That would be a real problem!! More so than the lakes, we need to get all the low lying wet areas froze up.
A lot can happen in 3 weeks, but if the ice is not good, the riding in the Northwood is tough, everything cross a lake. UP may be a better choice when the ice is thin.
The web cam at the Hoop shows Gogebic is just starting to make ice by shore. I can't believe I am saying this but if we can go with no snow for a few days and some bitter cold the lake could be ridable in the near future.
