Lake Winnebago Warning

I know there are a few on this board that ride Winnebago. The good news, there is enough snow to ride where ever you want. still some bare spots, but did a ride with my daughter yesterday afternoon and skid was plum full of snow for lube. The bad news - the trail that has been established on the NE end of the lake is right next to a spring. Yesterday afternoon took a ride near high cliff and there is an open spring 20' from the trail. I don't think you will see this riding it at night - or with this past mornings temps around -9, it may have froze over. We placed a down Christmas tree there yesterday afternoon to mark the area. Remember, down trees mean danger, standing up trees are marking a trail.

I rode Winnebago both Saturday and Sunday. Road from Oshkosh North and then crossed at tree line from Neenah Hook and Spear Club, then went south to Jim and Linda's. 2 foot drifts and then 10 foot bare spots. Sled did not overheat, but it would be like riding a jet ski in 2 foot chop. West shore had more flat snow. East shore was very drifty. Been there done that would not do it again. Need more wet snow.

While I don't disagree with doc mark on it is like riding a jet ski, I thought a photo would provide the actual situation of snow cover. This is from the east side of the lake, facing towards Neenah. When I rode with my daughter on Sunday, and taking it very easy, we had speeds between 35-55 mph. Don't think of this of "lake riding" like up north of a flat surface. Very "active" between drifts and ice cracks.

Like I said, the west shore had "more and flatter" snow. Anything out where the wind was blowing had more ice than snow. The area by the prison (Oshkosh) was by far the nicest.

Thanks for the heads up. Heard that there was a lot of crack movement on the lake this year too.
Lots o' drug dealin' on the lake too, geez, that's goin' on everywhere now! :greedy_dollars:
(That's not a critique, just a joke, y'all, :smiley_simmons:)

How is the snow and ice conditions along the west side of the lake from Oshkosh area just south of the Fox River down to Van Dyne area? Anything major to watch out for or is it pretty easy going? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

.....Made it. Lake sucked. Plenty of snow....just kinda rough. 45/50mph about average. Need more snow to smooth it out for high speed running.

Little better on way back. Visibility improved so could pick line better run little faster. Say south of Pipe is smoother. 85 miles for day.
