Land O' Lakes to Paradise and back

Had 2 couples head east last Sunday through Wednesday. Sorry this is late, but things are getting busy.
Since there are a lot of sensitive people out there.......I will refrain on reporting on our local trails until last.

Iron River - trail 107 good on way out EXCELLENT on way home These guys have been on top of this trail all season!! GRADE: A

SnoValley Riders - Trail 2 good, Trail 8 Kenton to Sidnaw to 8/15 intersection good Again the trail has been good all season. GRADE: B+

Baraga Chamber - We rode the trail East to Nestoria.........it was not good out or coming back.........however talked to Tracy
at the chamber and can now feel their pain, its been wet, groomers stuck, groomers broke, new groomer
drivers, and on and on, talked to someone who has a cabin on that trail also, its tough through the
"Moose Mountains" but these guys are working with their groomers and equipment as well as the State
to get all these problems resolved. Tracy says the trail is now groomed through! GRADE: D- (A for effort!)

Moose groomers - Trail was ok heading East on the way out and great coming back West. GRADE: B

Marquette - The week before, we saw how melted down this area was, as we were driving back from Quebec! There was a
base of ice and that was about it. They have done a great job with the little bit of snow they got! GRADE: C (A for effort!)
I may add that we have been through here quite a bit in the last 4 to 5 years and the groomers have always
done well with what they had.

Munising & Christmas - Yeah......we got lucky! Got around a foot of snow while we were there!! Ever since all the "brewha"
up there a few years ago, the trails were good and groomed. Trails 8 & 7 were great, Trails 417 and
418 were terrible on the way in and much better on the way out......lack of snow and freezing were the
culprits here GRADE: B

Seney & Grand Marais - We stayed mostly on Trail 8 There was some rough trail when you got N of Shingleton after that the
trails were great, groomed with lots of snow! on the way back they were grooming up and fixing that
bad section. GRADE: B

Paradise - Years ago one of our guys came up with the quote: "the only paradise in Paradise, is the name!) not so the last
couple of years! these guys have been doing a great job......and I love that guy that gives the grooming reports....
he is realistic and down to earth. GRADE: A-

Tacq Falls - These guys have a lot of "WET" to deal with, but again, through great effort they have been making the best of what
they have. They had to make a detour and it was easy to follow and understand, we love the Brewery its one of our
favorite pit stops in the U.P.! GRADE: C+

Newberry - This is another area where we have been skeptical of over the years. Only thing lacking on their trails was a little
more snow. Good grooming and efforts. They could use some directional signs when 45 ends at the highway, that
intersection was confusing to us and some other sledders we met there. GRADE: B

Watersmeet - As always, we come back from a great "mostly groomed" trip and get close to home and.............. at least they had
got some snow. There is a lot of traffic on 2W as we rode from the intersection of 2 and 107, however it was
Wednesday, it was still "choppy" trail 3 S was a little better than when we left on Sunday, but still choppy for the
middle of the week GRADE: C-

Land O' Lakes - Again it was a little better than when we left on Sunday.....but......this was a Wednesday in the middle of the
week. Still choppy we took the road back to our place! GRADE: C-

NOTE: of course all of these areas could always use more snow and some would have been excellent with more.

We Drove 752 miles in 4 days, the girls were "troopers" out of that trip east, I'd say it was some of the best all around riding
we've seen in a few years! good to see that so many clubs and grooming authorities are doing so well with the weather and
conditions they have been dealt ..........BRAVO!

sorry........find me some more tax returns! If its any consolation.....did work this weekend and have a desk full now.
Hopefully its snowing up there instead of the rain/ice we're getting now.

Got 2 1/2 inch by noon then it took a break. Another inch or so later. So, 3 1/2 to maybe 4". Lando trails were literally white caps today. Deb says rain in RHI until early afternoon.
