Last years gas?

I left my sleds (07 GSX & 98 MXZ 440Fan) in Eagle River last February. Each sled has 1/2 tank of gas. I am heading up next week and not sure if I should remove old fuel? add stabilizer? Leave alone? Thanks

Probably too late for Stabilizer. You can drain it and use for the car or truck. Add some fresh gas and start them up.

I have never drained my fuel, from anything. No need for stabilizer, maybe a splash of Iso to grab any mild condensation that may have formed with temp fluctuations. Pull the cord and run them for a while, top off with some fresh higher oct fuel, good to go.-Mezz

Your call. We all know old gas with water in it is hard on two-stroke engines. And poster after poster will say " I always use the old gas and never had a burndown in my 70 years of sledding" and yada, yada, I know all that. But really, why not siphon it out and dump it in your truck? I mean, it's like a 5 minute job.

I don't drain the sled because I run it once a month, plus, not a whole lot of gas left in it at the end of the season. I have not drained a single motorized seasonally used piece of equipment ever, including the 34 year old chain saw, never a fuel issue in anything, other than running out. Now, I'm not insinuating that this is something for everyone, just what I've done. Thankfully, I've never burned one down, not even with old gas.-Mezz

I'd say if you start every month or so you'll be better off than the guy who left it up north 7-8 months ago and hasn't touched it.

I'd siphon it out and put it in the truck or better yet, wait 2 more months and shiphon it then, put fresh fuel in it come december. Not a whole lot of reason to start the sled this time of year.

Everyone remembers the threads about burning down sleds "after leaving (a specific gas station)" I think those have been on here the last two years and everyone jumps to bad gas. If there can be bad gas in January, I'd think there can be bad gas in Sept.

go buy the cheapest car fuel pump with the leads about 10ft long and some fuel line, works great. pump right into your car/truck

Not much to consider run it or pump it, your choice, no rabbit being pulled from a hat.lol I would not put any gas in tank now as would be old by December.

I don't play around anymore with this junk fuel we are forced to buy. 10%-15% of crapola....
PUMP it add stabilizer to fresh. Might have to pull carbs when / if it doesn't perform well .... just as the snow starts falling....
Just the place I don't want to be.
Of course everyone had their opinion. I'm trying to increase my " sled time " this season. Snow was tough for come by last year.

The new gas we have only has a 45 to 60 day shelf live then it starts to separate and degrade. The octane rating is also the the first thing to go,after about 6 months the octane rating is probably around 80 or lower. The moisture in the gas will always be on the bottom.Starting your sled once a month will not make your gas fresher.I remove all the gas on a carbed sled and leave about an 1/8 of a tank in the EFI sleds.

"Starting your sled once a month will not make it fresher". Where did that come from? I merely stated that I don't drain the gas from my sled because I run it once a month through the off season, plus, not a lot of gas left in it at the end of the season. BTW, my sled is an EFI, not that this makes any difference. Carb on the lawnmover, carb on the grass trimmer, carb on the chain saw, carb on the lawn tractor.-Mezz

You know what they say about opinions.... so here is mine.

I drain my tank completely, and refill with fresh fuel a few days before my first ride.

Why?
Pump fuel goes to heck fast (loss of octane etc), collects water all summer, and the season is too short to miss the first weekend (or more if you burn down from deto, or clogged up jets/injectors leaning out your motor).

Can you get by never draining fuel? Probably. Could you have problems due to not draining? Maybe.

Will draining completely, and refilling with fresh fuel cause you problems? Not likely

Why not drain, and refill with fresh fuel is the real question to me.
