Latest project from FSR

Ok, so some of you guys have seen the little red sled on my profile picture, The one I built for my son. Well, he outgrew it, so on to the next project. I got a little lazy on this one and started with a Cat jag 340 basic frame and engine, in stead of fabricating everything from scratch. I stripped her down and stared cutting... Front suspension, gone, all new cro-moly steel A-arms and heim joints, shed about 35 lbs. from the stock setup. C/A pros for the boards, and of course shaper bars. Moved the engine in toward the center about 1 1/2" and down about 1 1/2" centered up pretty well. (the chassis was wide enough for a big triple, kind of overkill for a 340 hair dryer)Moved the jackshaft foreward and rolled the chaincase ahead to centralize the weight. Added a joint to the steering shaft and made it adjustable forward and back about 4" and up and down about 3 1/2". The boy likes to stand up a lot. Aquired a set of bars from a newer snowpro with the rotating bar clamps, pretty cool. Added a brembo hydro brake from a Doo, and scrapped the old mechanical system. Now that the engine is set a little closer to center, the belly pans were narrowed about 2" per side, and the running boards cut off in favor of a more modern, wider, style, more like a Rush, or a phazer. Seat and gas tank were scrapped to make room for the new alum fab fuel tank and narrow seat from a Kawasaki KXF 700. Made a nice storage box under the seat too, handy. The hood was narrowed to meet up with the belly pan and fabricated out of carbon fiber, along with the rear side panels. Rear suspension will be sort of an M-20 airwave derivative, with air bags and fully adjustable clicker rebound and compression shocks. Added a 1" camoplast sneaker and Stud boys to get better traction than the stock cat track.

Wow... somehow I still get all the customers sleds done....Will post some more pix. when its done. Jim

That's a work of art, GREAT job.

BTW, are you looking to sell the red sled that your son out grew?

I will probably be selling it, as soon as all the bugs are worked out of the new one. I have one friend who's daughter might get it, but if he doesn't want it, then it will be up for sale to a good home and to someone who likes to tinker/fabricate as all the parts are custom built from scratch.

Wow!

Well done. I am thoroughly impressed! Wish I had the time, the shop and the know-how to take on such a project.

Lucky kid you have there :)

Thanks for the comments. My son often comes out to help with the sanding and mechanical work. Not ready for the welding yet. I will post more pix as it gets closer to being done. Jim
