Looking for thin outdoor cedar strips to cover posts for my deck.

I had some cedar siding put on recently, from Pukalls, and it is the cedar lap (bevel) siding that is not flat.

I like how it looks and want to put cover boards on my 6 x 6 posts under my deck. Does anybody know a vendor that sells flat cedar strips/board? I am familiar with normal cedar wood, but it is too thick and I after thin flat cedar material if possible.

what about staining it more to the color of cedar?
be a lot less work and effort! and will actually help things last longer!

The posts are 20 years old and were stained with dark teak when built. I did have them powerwashed but putting cedar stain on
the current posts would not work at all. My deck and posts was all dark teak. I did have the deck surface wood replaced with cedar wood and it looks great. I am trying to make the deck cedar looking without being cedar. Need to put cedar strips over the posts and probably get a new cedar spindle railings.

well, some times if you cover things with wood, the wood under it will NOT be able to breath right and will hold moisture and well, rot out even faster
so covering them with cedar might be asking for issue's

there are chemicals that can be applied to remove most of the stain already in the wood, and an start over with stain color of your liking! over just trying ti hide it being new wood!

Just an idea
as I don;t know where you would get thin pieces to cover things>
and ??

what about FAKE wood flooring, that composite stuff, comes in all sorts of colors and looks, WON"T be in super long sections, but could be fit f=pretty tight like on a floor ??

The material has to be able to handle outdoor conditions, thus inside cedar material wont work, like pine wood. The cedar panels look very good over the one test post I have covered. I can not replace the posts as they support the deck above it and it would be a pain to take them out and put in cedar posts...

that's why I said composite material flooring, just like the composite decking!
and to be honest REAL cedar has remarkable weather resistance!
but that won't matter as you will be trapping moisture under it, which will again, cause the POST to deteriorate faster, even with composite coverings, but composite coverings will not hold ANY moisture!

wood is meant to breathe when you seal it being something else and its OUTSIDE< it will get moisture between things, and that is where the post will start to fail faster!
you asking for better LOOKS< at the costs of taking yrs off the life of the posts
your call here, just giving info about things!
