I have been riding my Apex 136 for 8 years now with no issues thinking of upgrading to a used 1 or 2 year old viper or Sidewinder want to stick with Yamaha 4 stroke as it suites my ridding style and love the trouble free years i have had with all my other Yamaha s I was just wondering if the handling and ride is that much better on any of these platforms do they feel any lighter than the Apex and do they handle the bumps and corners better or way better. Also any owners out there that would give me some pros and cons of these models would be great thanks .

It’s a subjective question for sure. I had my 2007 Attak GT EC rear suspension melting studders like butter so really liked the rear suspension. Then I bought a 2012 Apex xtx liked the 144 tipped and the eps a lot but missed the EC mono big time. I demoed a SW 137 not sure of the lug size and liked the riding position and engine a lot but a load to steer without eps. I don’t think think you should consider the Viper because you will miss the Apex HP. Since handling is so subjective it’s my opinion you should test ride a SW before you buy one. I can demo any sled and know right away how it feels to me what adjustments need to be made what can be corrected so to me a demo is a must.

I went from a Ski doo 800 xp to Nyrtro to Vipers the last two sleds. I have 17,000 miles on Vipers and have no problem keeping up. We do have a Sidewinder in the group..Just buy something with an extended warranty and enjoy Pat's has some used Sidewinders if I needed a new one would look at.

I can't speak specifically to the Vipers, but I have a 2014 YamaCat ZR7000 Sno Pro and I can honestly say it is the most fun trail ride I've ever had. The suspension and handling is so good that most of the time you don't even feel the extra weight of the 1049cc four stroke. The only con is that you feel the weight sometimes when the trails get slushy or if you get it stuck. Other than that, I have about 6,000 trouble free, wrench free miles with zero downtime.

I have a '14 Viper X-TX and a new-to-me '17 Sidewinder B-TX....4k+ miles on Viper but only a couple rides on S/W so far....coming off an Apex, go straight to Sidewinder unless Viper has turbo....you'll miss the pull otherwise....ride and riding position are just SO much better and easier on both back and knees.... my $.02

My thoughts exactly, unless you don't need the Apex pull/rush.

Saber I would go over to Totally Yamaha and post this question, you will get 10 fold on the replys from guys that made this jump. Buddah is one of them. I have both a 16 RTX Viper and an 18 LTX sidewinder but never owned the apex delta box platform. Everything about the procross chassis that has been said here is true though.

Thanks guys yea i am pretty addicted to that Apex pull would be a let down for anything less .Would a turbo Viper be close to the HP of a Apex ,not sure i would need that SW HP.

If that's the case, you would be much better to go with the SW, than the turbo kitted Viper. Much better, as it will be all but the very same weight.

I do not think I would buy a viper turbo just get a sidewinder and the extended warranty so you have no issues

Had the Apex attak (136"), went to the nytro, and now have a viper. The apex pulls a lot harder than the 1049 cc motor for sure. For me, I didn't need the extra power, and for the little riding I actually do due to kids winter sports, could not justify at this time the SW. But 3 of my buddies have them and they pull noticeably harder than the Apex, with a lighter feel and a better riding position. If money is not an issue for this purchase, and you love that hard four stroke pull, it is a no brainer. I will have a SW in my lineup at some point in time.

The turbos for the Viper start out at 180-ish hp and go up from there...the S/W is advertised at 180 but on real world dynos virtually everybody is seeing 204 or so...the weight of the 2 sleds is virtually identical...bodywork is slightly different so it's pretty much personal preference....keep in mind the S/W is supposed to run min. 91 octane but then so do the newer Apexes....if you REALLY want a hoot have a S/W reflashed....there's numerous performance flashes available....I had mine done for 270 hp on 91 octane

Edit: most of the turbo kits for Vipers run around 4k$ retail so costs are pretty much a push....but as harvet pointed out you can get the extended warranty with the S/W....not sure how the reflash would effect that but I had my Viper done (performance reflash) and my dealer did everything needed that should have been warrantied.

Kip is easy to deal with trade in used for used or used for new. I never saw my used Apex xtx until I picked it up didn’t ride it other than load on trailer and left. Of course Kip knew my Attak inside and out since Pat’s did all the service work so the trade was easy. Who knows maybe Kip will have a new Apex platform in 2020 and we can do it again!
