Wolfie,
I'm guessing this a lost cause. That sucks. I lost a map bag once. My fault. Was in a hurry to get going and forgot to snap it down after fueling up. So,, been there, done that.
The worst thing is all the stuff in it. The bag has stayed on for the last 3 years and now it comes off. I think i'm going to put a screw through the clamp so it will not come off. Thanks for all that looked have a great New Year.

I found a Ski Doo rear bag (XP) on the trail between Kalkaska and South Boardman Michigan on 12/28/10.
If you lost this bag and can describe the contents, please contact me at owenmarne@att.net or respond to this post.
This guy posted on DooTalk: Any chance it's the same bag??

Obviously this won't help you now....but here is a tip. Keep identification in or on your bag so if it is found by someone with a good heart, they have an easy way to figure out who to contact.
found a wallet on the trail a few years ago with over 300 cash. that guy had to be sick! I brought it to his house in wisconsin on the way home. Worked out well.
