I have been wanting to get a hitch mount Luggage racks for the back or my wife's Acadia for some time now, but have been torn on which one. Enclosed or an open platform.
Does any one have one they really like?
About how much was it?
Where did you get it?

How much weight does yours hold?.

Thanks

Like mine

Sorry for the long reply. As usual, I give more detail than is probably needed!

I can't remember the brand name of mine but I've seen it sold under several different names. It looks like this one:

I hope that works as a link. Never tried posting a link before. If not, I'll try to post the info differently.

I paid about $85 for it at U-haul. It was a last minute purchase so I didn't shop around much. If I recall, Walmart had them cheaper but were out of stock. It is rated to hold 500lbs.

We've had it about 4 years and used it many times for long trips behind our Odyssey and Expedition. It has started to rust from winter road salt but it is only cosmetic at this point. I'd definitely purchase again. It has carried Rubbermaid tubs, bikes, firewood, coolers - you name it. For trips I typically stack Rubbermaid type tubs on it and strap them down. If I expect bad weather, I shrink wrap the rim of the lid and under the handles so road spray does not get in. (Check under the handles of the tubs - many of them have small vent holes there that are not easy to notice.)

The good -
I like that it folds up when empty. If we get to our destination and unload we just fold it up. Don't have it sticking out and don't have to worry about removing/storing it.
It is very sturdy.

The bad -
It blocks opening the tailgate on both vehicles when loaded.

Hope that helps. Good luck

How do you like your Acadia We rented one in the Keys last month and loved it, the milage wasn't so great but the ride was smooth and it had great power. I think the nice thing about putting a rack on an Acadia is with the air ride you shouldn't have any sag in the rear it should self level.

More detail is always good, thanks! I saw one at Meijers for about $85 by Reese, but figured it might not be any good at that price. But if others a have good luck with them that a good sign.

We love the Acadia! The gas is so so the tank is not the biggest either. I think its only 22 gal. I think were getting around 18-20mpg and about 10mpg if I tow the sled trailer. (2 place covered tilt) But I will normal use my truck for going north. I real wish GM would have given an option for a V8 in the Acadia I would have up graded to it in with out question. You can never have enough power. I was not real concerned with gas mileage b/c my my wife and I both work less that 10min from the house. I want comfort for trips and when we were all to together.

As far as room it works out good I have 3 boy each in a car sear, (booster, forward facing, and Rear facing) I can just barely get a three in the middle row. The middle seat is the tight one. But this leaves tons of room for stuff in the back. But if you put that third row up you cut down storage space fast. Someone was thinking at GM and made the third row a 60/40 split so if you only need 1 more space you do not lose a storage. I was told that it is only 6" shorter than a Tahoe's overall length.

The also kids love the DVD system. I love the headphones for them and then I can change the station to what ever I want.
