It was a big day for the Mackinac Bridge.

The American Society of Civil Engineers is calling the Mackinac Bridge a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark.

Since 1964, the organization has recognized around 200 projects world-wide.

The organization picks structures that are unique, innovative and creative.

The Mackinac Bridge was the longest suspension bridge in the world when it was built and represented a new level of aerodynamic stability.

9&10's Christina Vecchioni and photojournalist Aaron Smith have more details from the ceremony.

Cool News. I was going to say that makes at least two spots in MI with that designation. The other being the Redridge steel dam. But upon further review, the dam is only listed as a landmark by the MI chapter of ASCE.Anyone know of other national landmarks here in MI by ASCE?

Oh, and the Mighty Mac has had it's share of national TV time in recent years. It was the subject of an episode of Modern Marvels on the History Channel, and a segment on Discovery Channel's Dirty Jobs with Mike Rowe.

I've never watched the movie "Somewhere in Time". Are there any prominent shots of the bridge in it anywhere?
