Manitowish Waters Area Report

Arrived to MW Sunday about 3pm, light snow falling, about 2" of new snow overnight. The good news is it's cold and they had about 3-4" of heavy wet stuff that will really help put down a good hard pack base. I noticed that MW Club had panned the trails by the airport and into town. The trails are currently closed but I have about 6" on the ground at our place which in normal years is pitiful, last year this time we had already had 2ft of snow. Oh well, let the snow come and wait until the trails are safe enough to ride, right now I think riding them would be a disaster and illegal as they are not open yet. More snow coming this week for somebody! Pea Patch, Ye Olde Sheleighle, open in MW but you should always check their hours as in calling them, don't rely on the website as they are not updated sometimes.

Always hope for more snow, its why we live up here. You have a good couple of weeks for things to get into shape so I think you will be OK. The groomers do a lot with what they get sometimes.

Yes, Anglers is open, I had dinner there Saturday night.
Try the pork Parmesan or pan fried Walleye the best anywhere.

Currently at Garmisch USA. Ashland County is open, ride at your own risk. They are not grooming and are waiting for the sleds to pack down the base. (Got my info from a County Sheriff and trail boss at Clam Lake.) Sawyer County is open and some of the trails are panned. The base is thin with a lot of exposed rocks. Don't ride a sled with a paddle track (1.5"+). Bayfield County, people are riding and they groomed trail 70 from Lake Namakogan to Cable. The base is thin with exposed rocks and weeds which makes it hard to follow to the trial. Again, don't ride the trail with a paddle track. There is about 6" in the area. Hopefully they will get more snow soon.

2" new snow overnight in MW, Still snowing lightly at 9:30am this morning. About 8" total on the ground now. If they do open the trails the only good thing is that there about 3" of hard pack ice and snow on the layer closest to the ground, the rest would be blown off the trail by the first group down the trail unless the groomers get out and set them up like I think they are working on right now. It is still pretty cold up here at night, -15 on Tuesday morning so might be able to set them up nice for early season conditions. Forecast is for 30-32 degree weather for the next 8 days, nice for ice fishing, not so much snowmobiling.

13 degrees this morning in Manitowish Waters, total snow from Tuesday night to Wednesday night was 4", about 9-10" snow on ground here. MW Club groomed the trails on Wednesday for a Friday morning 8am opening. Trails will be worn down pretty thin after the weekend but look nice right now and there seem to be a lot of people up for the Holiday weekend.
