I’ve seen the Club out cleaning up the trails daily and they groomed yesterday. Not sure of the status but many thanks to all who volunteered to help clear the trails. Still lots of heavy snow laden trees everywhere so be careful when they do decide to open the trails. Iron County opened yesterday but many low areas remain unhooked as it’s early season riding conditions.

I talked to a club member yesterday and we are hearing that the Presque Isle/Winchester trails will be inspected Friday the 12th and if it goes well the trails could open this weekend. I was also told that there was a change that would allow Vilas County club trails being opened individually instead of as a whole. Northern Vilas historically gets a lot more snow than the south and east, but I don't know if that was rumor or fact.

Interesting RPH on Vilas being able to just open certain sections. That's the 1st I have personally heard of that maybe happening. I was brushing in Saturday and the club never mentioned it. I would think they would need to split the county in a northern and southern zone. Really hard to keep track of what trails you are on and not have people trespassing on closed trails. I also believe all trails in Vilas can't open until the 15th due to muzzles load deer hunting.

Well RPH you may be on to something. I just read an article saying exactly what you said. It said that a trail system next to them has to be open too. So if Michigan is open then Presque Isle and land o could open. Once they open then Boulder could and so on. Sounds like a different way of doing it and should be interesting on sledders knowing exactly where they can and can't ride.

Yes Vilas Clubs can open without all or nothing vote. Lando has been good to go for awhile but didn’t want to be a trail island no where to go north , south , east or west. Lando always been known as the Gateway to the UP but Watersmeet and Iron Range technically were open but you couldn’t ride thru due to down trees. I’m still not sure if 107 is open groomed by Iron Range. It is what it is for now ride with caution and try to know what club trail system you are riding.

I'm headed north tomorrow Hermie and will find out if the trails got inspected. Also, I will talk to our club president who is very active with the county administration regarding different clubs opening individually. I forgot about muzzle-loader season so maybe we will be riding at the beginning of next week. Saw your post about brushing trails in Lake Tom. Thank you for your hard work.

Thank you for the clarification. I wish I could find some kind of update on that or press release. Can't find anything about it on AWSC website. Would be good for people to know what's open and what's not in Vilas. Either way, looks like this year with the recent snowfall it's a non-issue.

muzzle loader season ended 12/10, so that shouldn't be an issue.

Club opening date was discussed at recent meetings but no public online release that I can find either. Who knows why?

AWSC does not make the county opening procedures. That's decided at a county level. Every county can have a different opening/zone procedure. They just recommend your county has a procedure in writing.
They do have the statewide antlerless starting today until Sunday, 14th.

Seen this article the other day.

That's the article I saw too. Definitely a big change from how they have been doing it. Time will tell how this works out. Still seems like maybe doing 2 zones would cause less confusion on what trails you can ride.
