Maps for Garmin GPS?

I agree with Uncle Ed

The gpssledmaps were good last season, and they have been much improved this year. I have been to the UP twice this season with a Garmin Nuvi mounted, and the maps make it possible to get around all day without ever looking at a paper map. Of course they are wrong every now and then because the trails have had to be moved, but that is true of paper also. Be sure to turn off the internal map that comes with the GPS when you need to see the trail maps.

You can get a free version, but the premium is worth every penny.

I just came back from the UP - Seney / Grand Marais area. I hava Nuvi 255w, I added the GPSSLed Mi sno map and it worked great, there were a couple times when the GPS was a little off on the trail location. I just used the vacumn mount that came with the unit. Just for extra security I rigged up an extra strap in case the vacumn let go. Never happened, even when off trail riding and jumping, it never came loose.

Hope this helps

Mounting Nuvi

zr500rider:
I took a thin steel plate about 4 to 5 inches square and drilled two holes in it that just line up with the riser clamp that holds the handle bars in place. The two bolts to use are the ones closest to the driver. Do not go too heavy with the plate. You want a bit of flex to protect the Nuvi. About 25 to 50 thousands is enough. Round the corners and paint it.

I then fixed one of the Garmin Dashboard Mounts (Garmin number: 010-10747-02) https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=1370to the plate using a permanent glue disk. To be extra safe also epoxy glue the two pieces of the Dashboard Mount together permanently. Now attach a Bracket Mount (part number: 010-10973-20) ( https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=10368 ) on the ball and mount your Nuvi onto that and adjust the whole thing. You may have to bend the plate up or down just a bit to get your vision just right. Once you have everything perfect, epoxy glue the Bracket Mount to the ball on the Dashboard Mount. The whole mounting system is now bolted and glued to the riser. Nothing can move or come lose. You can take the Nuvi off at any time by clipping it out of the Bracket Mount. The Nuvi will not jump out of the Bracket Mount no matter how rough the trail gets. We often ditch bang without a problem. If anything should ever break, you can put a new system on the plate by heating the plate enough to remove the Permanent Glue disk and gluing a new one on in a few minutes. I have over 10,000 miles on mine with never a problem. I have moved it from one Apex to another. I hope that this helps you.
