Marquette Record Snow?

"8.0 INCHES OF SNOW AND 0.33 INCH OF LIQUID EQUIVALENT PRECIPITATION
FELL TODAY AT THE MARQUETTE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE OFFICE. THIS
SNOWFALL BREAKS THE PREVIOUS RECORD OF 4.3 INCHES THAT ACCUMULATED
ON JANUARY 8TH IN 1985. THE PRECIPITATION AMOUNT ALSO BREAKS THE
DAILY RECORD OF 0.24 INCH THAT FELL ON THIS DATE IN 1978." -NWS

Just curious on what that exactly means? I can't believe 8" of snow is a daily record for Marquette. Thanks for any input.

Ok. That makes sense. I hope you can excuse me, I hadn't had my coffee yet. Still, they report keeping records since 1961. You would think with almost 50 yrs of records they would of had a "double digit" snowfall total on Jan. 8.

Just happens to be I guess. I just checked everyday from Jan 1-9 and the records had a low of 5.3 to a high 18.7. I'd like to order an 18.7 for about a week from Wednesday as i'll be up the following day. :)
