Marquette Trail 8

We rode through this area yesterday coming up from Gwinn on trail 8 and headed west to Ishpeming. All I can say is HOLY COW...cleaned that up a bit. I've seen moguls in my decades of riding but WOW! I can't understand how a major east west trail can be in the same condition as some of the spurs that run to a gas station or hotel that are never groomed. I'm talking 2-3' moguls. We had to stop every 5-10 mins to take a break and my son is only 30. I'm guessing around 15-20 miles of this but it felt like 100. Trail 8 up from Gwinn was perfect. We ended up taking trail 82 west from Ishpeming to 5 by republic and that again was awesome.

So my question is what is going on in Marquette? I've seen 15 north of sidnaw to L'anse (Pipeline) as bad as this but I'm not sure which one takes the crown as the worst maintained trails. Granted traffic was high but it was high on all the trails we rode yesterday.

I saw 107 from Watersmeet to Kenton like that once and Ken and I pounded the entire 25 mile distance. One lane was groomed on return. I vowed to never do that again would have been smarter to backtrack back to IR and 15n even with a gas up in IR. Iron county had a groomer problem and why 107 was so bad don’t know about 8.

We haven't been through that area in a long time. Will not write it off as condtions can change overnight, but I will say that it definitely gave the baraga grooming or lack thereof a run for it's money. It would have taken several passes to make a dent.

Wonder how many passes it took. I think my son disappeared in one of the moguls. Just saw the top of his helmet....

Been there done that. But they (Moose Country ) did a Great Job bringing it back. All their trails were gorgeous today, 5 from Champion to 32 Junction was beautiful..

Check that Champion on 8 east to trail 14 N is good. Then 14 to 417 cutoff is not good.

That was the biggest problem last Saturday. 8/14 junction and east of there maybe 10 miles or so. That was some tough riding.
according to the map, that section of the trail your speaking of and 53 stated is maintained by U.P. Central Trails club
that short section on 8 from the 82/8 split to trail 417..... 417 over to trail 418
