Maybe the unemployed can still find a way to sled...??

I've been thinking about this idea for quite awhile now and I guess it is time to kick it out there and see if it has viability.

Okay, so the economy sucks for a bunch of the crowd, and many if not most are thinking...why bother to get the sled ready for a ride when the pockets are nearly empty and the sledding money is now being used for essentials.

So it seems to me, that there ought to be a way to keep the sledding economy goin in dah U.P. where you can count on snow first, middle and last, and still get to do some sledding with a little help from fellow sledders.

Hear me out now before you hit the delete key.....

Somebody out there owns a truck that could haul a bunch of sleds. Somebody else out there has some places to store sleds for the winter and keep an eye on them so some yoyo doesn't take a liking to it and joy ride on YOUR sled. Waiver of liability would be in order on this one...I guess.

Somebody else has a machine that can collect sledders (even those who heretofore have only done solo rides with a brother-in-law, or friend) to get these guys (and girls...if they have to come...ah...I mean, WANT TO COME along) up to a sledding destination where the action is at; spread over dah U.P.

While full ticket price for stays might be nice some income at empty places is better than NO income at those places should the real brunt of the economy take a toll this year in the sled riding department. Good will can pay back eventually, eh??

This forum (Pardon me John, sitt'n on the sidelines, I didn't want to bother you with getting permission before launching this idea) could very well be a good place to announce your part of some help for fellow sledders.

Places to stay at reasonable prices...maybe in trade for a bit of labor the cabin owner(s) need doing...food discounts, a supply of gasoline that doesn't have road tax on it....rides up and back...anything you can do to help out a bunch of people who really will take it on the head this winter.

I will start by offering a free ride on my two seater pickup, strapped to the roof....(just like the beverly hill billies) no cost....well, maybe a car wash or something....whatchathink???

Got something..toss it in, and see where this goes...besides...never never land!

Boon not sure those that don't have money for sleddin have money for discount sleddin. No money is still no money. This idea needs a lot more thought & organization to make sense to me. Maybe if the snow flies & then no UP biz this idea would be the stimulas for some discounts. But your total solution logistics are overwhelming at this point. Just my opinion.

Yep that works $500 sleddin cc trip when paid off costs $4,000 but paid off in future inflated dollars costs you less right

Okay, so wait until the last minute to try and organize all the logistical processes this would need to fly?? These things need to be carved out, now. Dates, sorta set say once per month over the winter, where all who participates would give a little going and coming, staying and eating and sponsors found for fueling a few sleds. Somebody has to take charge and store a dozen sleds, others can leave dates open for those who need a lift to sled, or a place to stay.

Way I see it, if we can't help out a guy or two in our own industry, who will?? These things have a way to work out if there is a will for it. Just like any other endeavor, if we shrug our shoulders and leave this to others to "get done.•••••• usually won't get done.

Nobody dies if it doesn't happen, but there is a lot of good will that can come out of it too.

Gett'n your mind off the economy for a couple days is good medicine for those partaking, and those participating to make it happen.

It's an idea....that's all.

Things are tough here in the old northwoods too! economy effects everyone. Gas going up in 15 cent incruements.beer tax going up.If we get snow people will ride but I bet they will cut back alot.Talked to a couple of area contractors. They say they have a little work, not much for whole winter. They are buying sleds and going to ride again to pass the time!Boulder Junction voters just turned down a 3.5 million dollar community building and library which was smart in this troubled uncertain economy. Big turnout,276 voters on a rainy tuesday night in big room with not enough chairs.almost 200 say NO, mostly tax paying business people. Come on up,spend some bucks and get gov stimulas money for the trip!

I think folks who want to sled away from home do group up & share the expense of travel & sometimes lodging. It's a nice idea in it's roughest form, kind of like paying it forward. The thing is, it has to be afforded by somebody. I don't know of a business out there that can afford to give it today for a payback someday, kind of like Whimpy from the good ole cartoon Popeye, "I'll gladly pay you tomorrow for a burger today". Times are tough & money is tight for everyone. Your heart is in the right place, but everyones wallet has the space.-Mezz

I gotta quad cab diesel, and a two place trailer. I can pull a much bigger trailer if someone has one. I am laid off right now, dont know how long it will be for. Could be all winter? If people want to ride especially during the week Id be game. I live in between Milw. and Madison.

Anything you have to do to enjoy your hobby is worth it to me. I remember when I used to race Sno-x. I let fellow races sleep on my hotel room floor that couldn't afford there own room. It beat there luke warm trailer and they were more than happy. Make sure every seat in the truck and every space on the trailer is full and have the best time ever! You need something to help keep your sanity!!
