Maytag Dishwasher, Help

Hey everybody, any body out there know anything about dish washers? I have an 11 yr old Maytag Jet clean, EQ Plus dish washer that up until last night worked like a million bucks.
So the Mrs. loads up the dishwasher like usual and hits the go button. It fills with water and heats up for a minute or, the motor/pump starts but nothing happens! No water coming out of any of the spray arms. Like I say, one load it works fine, the next, nothing. I tried starting cycles about 5 times but to no avail, I had to hit the drain button every time.
Is there a filter or water inlet or something that could have all of a sudden gotten clogged with some foreign matter? Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Not sure if this is the problem but worth a shot. Clean the breather---take it apart, sometimes food ect. gets stuck in there. Happen
to mine, after cleaning works good now. (I did have some standing water in the washer when this happened).

Hope this helps, Good Luck.

If the unit is pumping out water but won't pump it through the system, doesn't sound like the issue is the pump.

Filter is possible particularly if your wife washes pickle bottles and things with labels on them.

Other more likely thing is the solenoid that opens the valve to the wash cycle is kaput....one for drain direction and one for the wash direction.

Hey man....how's the economy suppose to recover if folks like you don't go out and buy a dishwasher at least every ten years.....I bet your driving a 1985 Yugo too.....get out there and spend some money and buy a a new one, and put a smile on your wife's face. After all she needs to do the dishes....at least every other day (like your supposed to do them on odd days...etc)

We just replaced our stove and oven last week. After that first service call, you know you're on borrowed time as ten to twelve years is typical for most appliances these days.

Alright, not sure what happened there. Half way through my reply and it disappears.
Too funny anonmoose! yeah the 3/4 ton sits in the garage along with the wife's Burb, , until she finds a new job. The work car is a 99 Saturn SL2 W/195,000 miles on it, perhaps a step up from a yugo. :)
It's strange, the thing fills, heats up, the motor runs and nothing happens. Wonder if the impeller smoked? I thought about some label or paper matter getting down in there, but wouldn't the "food chopper" take care of that? I fill water and drain water at will. Has to be something simple.

i'm still cooking on my 1957 chevy. it's a stainless steel beast made by general motors with the disapearing stovetop and the oven on top. it needs parts all the time but you can still order them through home depot.

If you have a food chopper it should chew up the labels but they can still clog things up in the tube.

If it pumps water out, the pump is working. Water coming in is by force of water pressure. Go to the solenoid that controls the flow to the wands and change it out. That should fix your washer.

Take out the spray bars and remove the cover where all the water drains, once that is open there is an impeller and a check valve. Make sure the impeller is not stripped out and check the screens for food and that the check valve is still intact. Keep in mind the check valve is made of rubber usually and is for the drain not the supply. That's about the best advice I can give you. I would shut the water supply off after the cover is off and run it briefly like a few seconds to see if the pump is turning the impeller. Good luck

Ok, thanks everybody. I'll give it a whirl maybe on Sunday. I presume the solonoid that sends water to the wands is located below the, , whatever you call where the dishes get washed. Must be behind the little panel.
Out of curiosity, is that solonoid like a 2 positon solonoid in that if it's energized one way the spray wands get water and if it's energized the other way the water drains? That would make sense as to why it worked one time and then didn't work the next.
