Anyone have the kitchenaid meat grinder attachment and if so does it work well or waste of 50 bucks?? I was reading some chef forums and the die hards all have 400 dollar units.. Sorta like us and snowmobiling equipment.

I have one from Cabela's 400 watt Heavy duty, I've ground 20+ deer with it over the past 7years never let me down yet just ground up 2 deer yesterday, normally 99.00 on sale for 69.00 now on line.

I know of two people that have burned the brushes up in their Kitchen Aid's from using the meat grinder, but also know of several that have had no problem. I would think if you are only doing a little grinding here and there it would be fine otherwise check the bigger grinders as mentioned before.

We have one, but also have the professional grade mixer, too. When our big grinder blade went bad last year in the middle of making deer burger, we had to finish with the KitchenAid. It worked ok, but we went really slow. As said above, I use it for smaller jobs all the time, but don't plan on using it for any big jobs again.

I was told that if I break her mixer I could find a new place to sleep, so she got a new meat grinder from Gander for Christmas last year. I think the one I bought was a 1 or 1-1/2hp motor and can do a couple of pounds of meat per minute, and was on sale for just over $100.00. For our usage this one works great and is alot cheeper than finding a new place to sleep.

I absolutely love my kitchenaid and the grinder attachment. We just made over 20lbs. of venison burger last weekend. We run it once through on the coarse grind, once with the fine grind, then mix with your personal favorite spices and/or sausage and lard, then one more grind through with the fine grind. One right after another, never had a problem overheating or anything as mentioned in previous posts and we have had this unit over 5 years. Plus you can make pasta with it if you buy the extra grind plates that are available, although I wish i would have known that before buying the more expensive pasta attachment, but oh well. I my opinion, you have already spent in excess of $350 probably for the mixer, why not add to its duty with the inexpensive attachments? Oh and search the web I have seen these attachments for as little as $25-$35 on some websites. And check ebay for used ones as i would have no problem buying these used as there really are no parts to wear out or motors to break. It just attaches to the mixers PTO (if you will) and is all mechanical. Just my .02¢
