Looks like I'll be the first to wish everyone a happy and safe Memorial Day weekend. If you're traveling be careful out there and get them home safely. We plan to stay around the house, it's finally warm enough for me to plant the garden. I'll probably take the new Spyder for a ride sometime this weekend and the wife is in a parade on Monday. Otherwise the grill is hot, the beer is cold and we'll do a little entertaining.

We've been celebrating Memorial Day since 1868, just after the Civil War. (I looked it up) Designated to honor those that served and to those that died in service to their country. A bit of personal history... my grandfather was on a destroyer in World War I chasing German U Boats, "we never caught a one but we sure raised some he** on shore leave". Dad was on CV 21, the U.S.S. Boxer during Korea. My uncle was wounded in Vietnam, came home and raised a family and is now the leader of his local VFW Chapter.

So again, have a safe and happy Memorial Day, remember the reason we're celebrating a three day weekend and thank you to all veterans present and past. God Bless.

I really wish more people understood what Memorial Day stands for. That aside. I put some money towards flagsforvets.com and will be visiting the new Veterans memorial in Preston MN on monday. Hope the weather is decent so I can take the Monte. Other than that I am working today and probably tomorrow unless it rains again. I cannot thank the Veterans enough. This is the greatest Country in the world thanks to those that serve!!!!! Here is the link to that Memorial. http://www.wreathsforthefallen.org/index.cfm?pageid=580000

Long military history for me. Father died in WWII when I was 8 months old. I can trace mine all the way back to the Civil War---had an [great etc] uncle die at Anderson prison. Wife traces her heritage all the way back to the Revolutionary War-she's a distant relative of Molly Pitcher. Me-I served and I'm a life-time member of the American Legion and VFW. If you are a vet please consider joining one of these organizations. Great times! Thanks to all our military serving NOW. You are greatly appreciated by this vet. Rev.

Thank you to all who have served our country. My brother in law is a General stationed in Hawaii. We're blessed to have a wonderful military.

Even though I still think about him often, I especially think about my high school friend and classmate Marlin P. on Memorial Day. He was killed in Vietnam when he was just 19 years old. We should never forget the sacrifice Marlin and so many others have made in service to our country.
