Does anyone know how far it is from Mercer WI. to Cable WI (Lakewoods Resort) by Snowmobile? I am thinking of making that trip sometime later this month. Any info would be appreciated very much. Thanks.

I do not know what route we took but believe it was about 3 hours. I know we where on the flowage west of mercer then on the Tuscobia? But it was a long rail road bed.

keep in mind the trails are not marked the best and some maps will show it as a trail number when its really a fire road. make sure you fuel up at all stops or you will cut it too close for comfort i know when we got lost we pulled into this little bar off of a lake and was charged 3.00 over going rate per gallon
the trails can be full of snow around mercer and you will be riding ice before u get to cable if snow is thin.

I'm not sure of exact mileage as there are some different ways you can go, but it's around 100 miles.

It doesn't matter which way you go I don't think it's doable in an hour and twenty minutes.

This can be done quickly if you know the fire roads. If going by trail it takes a while due to the narrow twisty woods trails. I can't give you exact mileage or time, but I remember doing it a few years back with my brother. We were trying to get to Cable and only got as far as Glidden and started heading back to Mercer. We don't ride slow.... On another trip, my brother got a fire road route from a bar in clam lake and made it to Hurley in 1.5 hrs or less.

I don't recall the trail numbers be we often went from Lakewoods to Clam Lake and then on to Island Lake. From Island Lake you somehow cut over to trail 17( the Rail Road Grade that runs from hurley to Minocqua). Trail 17 takes you right through Mercer.

We often do the Southern route as well. From Mercer you cut over to the Flowage. I forget the name of the bar you go out of on the Southwest end of the flowage but the owner does alot of Grooming I remember. Here is the point in which it gets blurry as I am always having to stop for some direction. Somehow (in the dark) I cut from the Flowage to West of Park Fall and pick up the Tuscobia Trail (another RR grade). I take this grade to the Chippewa Flowage and then work my way up to Lakewoods through Sawyer County.

Get the Maps.....but if you need some more specifics (especially on the Sawyer/Bayfield counties) let me know.

Mileage wise it would be quicker to go the northern route. I have left from 15 miles East of Hayward and done this round trip (leaving the northern route and coming home the southern route) and its around 185 miles
