Mercer Wi

We are heading up to Mercer this weekend, wondering if anyone has been on the trails lately up here and if so, what direction do you recommend riding? North West or North East into the u.p. Looking forward to one last ride of the year.

My best guess from what I hear is head up through island lake, and into hurley and then you u.p. The snow has been the best from Mercer to Hurley all year, if the grade is bad i would run 10 over towards 15 and take that up. Best of luck

Thanks for the reply, think we will try that. Has anyone been on the trail from ironwood to bergland this week? Is that still terrible?

Trails around Hurley (White Thunder Riders) are in good shape. Spent 6 hours in the Tucker yesterday and riding today. I'm told that the grade from Mercer to "310" is low on snow and a bit rocky. With temps mid 40s Sunday and on, I think this weekend is it.

PS- Trail from Bessemer toward Lake Gogebic is in bad shape and will be a challenge. Lot of people are trailing to Wakefield or Bergland to ride the U.P.

Well, Mercer was shot all weekend. Did not see a groomer anywhere and there was heavy traffic. Got alot better up by Presque Isle and down by Manitowish Waters. My body is sore but all and all, a fun last ride!

Manitowish Waters and Presque Isle groomed Friday and Saturday. Very cool of them to not "throw in the towel" for what will probably be one last weekend. My hat's off to the folks in those areas - they have been doing a great job throughout this difficult season.

Our group drive through Mercer area on the flowage and up to trails 10 and the twelves on way to 17. They were freshly groomed and fairly nice. It was around 7 PM. Expected then to be much worse. In fact, they were good all way back to Hurley area where we found more fresh grooming. I would say they did not shut groomers down till they had to. We had great trails all day.
