Michigan Covid lock down question

So if I’m correct Michigan bars/restaurants are take out only at present? If this goes through the winter, snowmobiling will be a little “challenging” this year. I’m not down playing the pandemic situation just wondering about lodging and eating arrangements...

No way to answer your inquiry at this time. We have to wait and see what Whitmer will allow in MI. If she totally objects to Snowmobiler migration she can shut us down easily. Logically vaccine availability should ease the situation. I suspect WI will be business as usual but again have to wait and see what Evers decides although Republicans at state level has kept him in check. Keep the faith snowmobiling season moves on as usual. Lack of early snow maybe working in our favor to not force a decision at this time either way.

lets hope things change by then, not so sure the vaccine will change anything for this season as it initially is going to health care workers and other front line workers, then to nursing homes and at risk people, general population not expected until april, and being the uptick is now primarily in younger people and the numbers continue to grow the way they are I fear for the up coming season. The only other thing I heard on Michigan restrictions is hotels/lodges etc have to have a 24hr period of vacancy between changes in reservations/stays, not confirmed but what I had heard. If true could affect places to stay with loss of revenue so maybe we will be paying a bit more this year??? fingers crossed but I do fear for the upcoming season. Luckily we have a full cabin rented so we can make own meals, just may not be any long extended rides this year depending on weather, what will they do about restroom stops. I hope something changes for the better.

I can confirm this. We rented at a resort on Lake Gogebic in February and were told they must have 24 hours between stays and they have raised their prices as a result. Can't really blame them. Let's hope Whitmer doesn't make it worse! Can you believe Time magazine has her in consideration for Person of the Year? LOL

I have a buddy with a cabin near Hayward Wisconsin so our group has options. We were planning a saddle bag trip from there up through the UP. My fear is if Minnesota stays locked down and Michigan, Wisconsin will be a zoo... so many people new to the sport have bought sleds that it’s gonna be busier than usual in my opinion. My local dealer is completely cleaned out on used and figures to be out of new ones by Christmas. ��

If there is a ton of new people to the sport and Wisconsin is the main open state it could be scary. I would rather rent a cabin in Minnesota or Michigan. Eat a big meal in the morning, pack a good size snack, then eat back at the cabin for supper, then end up on crowded weekend trails with a surplus of inexperienced riders. This could be an ugly year for accidents. Around our area we'll ride midweek in the evening. Good chance if you see a pair of riders out at 4 am in this area of Wisconsin that I'm one of them. I love night riding. It's peaceful, less riders, and the sky can be just gorgeous.

I think its great to brings snacks and food with but I also think its important to support the small businesses that stay open even if it means grabbing carry out in the parking lot every lit bit helps, I'm going to try to help with my crew!

Frozen Pastys from Krupps carry well in trunk of sled to bring back to cabin, from past experience bring baggie for gravy though unless you are a ketchup kind of person

Could be a very messy trail come spring if almost everyone is packing a snack or lunch. I have come across countless intersections covered in beer cans. Some people have no respect for the environment or care about the safety of fellow riders. Carry in carry out and drink when the riding is finished for the day. Just a suggestion, but suggestions are pretty unpopular these days.

Luckily we have a cabin with a kitchenette over New Years so if need be we could cook breakfast and dinner. My big concern is warming up. It can get mighty cold. I was thinking we could do this at gas stations but if hundreds and hundreds of other people are thinking the same it could get pretty crowded inside the gas station not to mention the bathrooms.

This is going to be our plan this year, part of the draw for my wife and I is not only the beauty of the U.P. but our favorite stops, whether it be for a warm up, eat or just share time and hear how things are out there on the trails from fellow riders or share stories and as bladeguy stated luckily we have a cabin, the shutdown wont change our plans as far as coming up goes but will definitely change our rides. Is what it is, but will miss all of our regular stops and the comradery you share with fellow riders. It truly just sucks for the business owners up there, very unfortunate!! if they were given a choice, I bet we all know what their answer would be, along with the influx of riders that will be heading that way.

p.s. the explosion of cases from thanksgiving (family thanksgiving...ICU Christmas) never manifested in our state, positivity rates less than half what they were before thanksgiving, states with strict lockdown...not getting better. OPEN IT UP!!!
