Just need a MI trail permit. Sled is supposed to be registered to you, but it can be registered in any state so have both your MN registration and ID with you and you should be fine.

I've never even had anyone ask for the registration, usually they see the permit and just wave you by provided you're not going 85 mph standing up with a backpack full of garden tools on your back and a Mohawk on your helmet.

No just want to see MI trail permit in proper location. MI DNR hangs at RT45 trail 3 & the military hill locations at road crossings & various snow banks along 8 Bergland to Sidnaw lots of stop signs to blow in those miles.

I was once pulled over because of an expired Illinois registration sticker. I had the current sticker in pocket, and the Michigan trail pass on the windshield, no tickets issued. If your sled is not registered, you will be ticketed if caught.

I think I blew thru a couple hundred un needed MI trail stop signs this weekend.
Funny thing is I sloww way down for Yeild signs because they always seem to be placed at well worn driveways and such....most stops are regulating unused and mostly gated crassings.

Quite the rebel and a risk to say you break the law

To the orig post, yes its possible you could be checked for residency

It would be ashamed if one were to be T- boned after blowing so many stop signs. Hard to believe the LEO is out enforcing the law. What a flipping a$$ Hat. Time to thin the Hurd .

Maybe you need to come to a complete stop for your eyes to focus....mine work quite well as i approach a crossing.
I bet you go through alot of belts coming to COMPLETE STOPS at all crossings.

I can recall at least 4 stop signs along trail 2 that have been gated and unused for 10 winters....time to update.
That example repeats itself all over the trail systems.

What about putting the stop sign on the least used direction of the interection like in the real world of traffic control?

It is what it is no doubt when you come to a stop sign & 3 feet of snow no traffic thru there but if the landowner wants it the land owner gets the stop sign....some could be yield signs but to me just ride make your choice up to rider but don't bitch if ticketed .....to be honest no one stops for all the stop signs to a no roll full stop. For me when I come to a road it gets the full no roll stop I stand up look both ways then proceed. Road crossings you can lose big time do yourself & group a favor full stop.

I did the same thing snow builder. I found out if you pay online it's $90 if you mail it in its a hundred and ten dollars. Or you can spend the night, contest it. Then itt runs like $200 plus the cost of a hotel room.

The reason they will sit there is because about 6-8 years ago a 70 year old man pulled out in front of a pickup doing about the speed limit or so and I got to see the aftermath of the accident including the blanket in the road. But from what I was told he stopped then riding partner pulled up next to him and blocked his view and didn't see truck, very tragic. I have also seen dnr at driveway on trail 2 just west of where 3 turns north and calling to the dnr sitting at the 2-3 intersection writing tickets to everyone that doesn't make a complete stop because someone t-boned a car there by not stopping at stop sign. So I get it but I do agree with others they can cover the signs where the driveways are not used in the winter like they do on the Bill Nickols trail that would help to get people to stop where it is truly needed and keep moving when it is not nessary to stop.

I don't think anyone is appalled. It doesn't matter if you know the trail like the back of your hand. If a stop sign is put there, its still a stop sign, and if you blow it, that is your risk. Not that I want more patrols or anything, but as we all know, odds are in your favor...... Until that one time.

I'm neither appalled or a weeney. I thought any and all fellow snowmobilers that are a part of this forum were law abiding and it is always "the other guy "

I have trespassed . There I said it again
