Mileage on 2012 Polaris 600s

For 2013, the Polaris website makes a big deal that the fuel and oil costs are only $50 less than a Ski Doo 600 (although I don't know which Ski doo 600 motor). If you have a 2012 Polaris 600,...I'd appreciate knowing what kind of milage you are getting. One of the sleds in my group this weekend had the valve 600,...his mileage was easily in the 15 or more mpg range.

We currently have a 2012 Adventure 600 and a 2012 800 Switchback Assault. I have recorded the oil and fuel consumption on both from he start of season:

I would consider us fairly aggressive riders, as I can't remember ever being passed, but not "Balls Out" all the time.

600 Adventure: 1355mi - 89.9gl of gas used = 15.07mpg (w/ a best trip recorded 16.2mpg)
1.15gl of oil used = 78.1:1 ratio

800 Switch Assault - 650mi - 42.6gl gas used = 15.26mpg (w/ a best trip recorded 16.9mpg)
72oz of oil used (.5625gl) = 75.73:1

I have a 2012 Adventure 600, and only really kept track on a couple of tanks during my first trip to the UP, so the motor was brand new and not broken in. I was getting 12.5 mpg and the group I was with rides very hard! I did not measure any oil consumption, but it sips the oil to the point that rp7x is all worried I'm not using enough. I just turned 1,000 miles on it this weekend and the engine is so smooth, I just love it. Plenty of power too! You really can't go wrong with the Polaris 600, it's proven itself for many, many years.

In all honesty, the eTech gets better mileage, as I ride with one quite often. However, I prefer the solid feel of the Polaris vs. the light weight of the Ski Doo. Something has to give to get that light weight, and it's usually parts you don't want to give! :)

X2! I couldn't be more pleased with the Adventure's ride and handling, along with the performance. We too ride often with a couple of 600 etec's and they'll normally take a little less to fill each time, but its pretty darn close.

Last weekend we had a good comparison between 2 new E-Tecs 600 Renegades and my wife's 600 Adventure. We rode 275 miles on lakes and rivers in Canada. All three sleds had the same amount of gear along, but both guys weighed in around 100 pounds more then my wife. The pace was exactly the same. The conditions were deep snow and warm the first 2 days and cold firm snow the last day.

We did not check the actual mileage, but we did compare the amount of gas they used. In the 275 miles the Ski-doos used abut 2.5 gallons less then the Adventure. All 3 sleds did not get very good mileages in the warm deep snow probably around 9-11 mpg. The colder day all 3 got much better mileage.

None of the 3 sleds ran low on oil and looked like they had plenty left in the oil tank.

Thanks for the insights and the mileage numbers. I do like the Polaris ride having had several of them all my life. However, I couldn't imagine not having an Etec outboard ,...3 yrs of flawless performance. Familair handling vs a great motor with great range,...it might just come down to what kind of deal I can get.

Did Polaris do something different with the 600s in 2012? Seems like everyone is raving about them, for power, reliability, mileage and oil usage. Do they still have that $60 fuel filter that needs to be changed every 1500 miles?
