MN North Shore

Rode out of Finland on Sunday and ran the NSST north to where you would turn to go down to Lutsen. Trail was pretty good for most of it. There are some thin and bare spots but 95% of it is good. The area where the trail crosses the cramer road til just past the Tomahawk turnoff has been plowed all yr for logging so thats the worst area. Right past that though its perfect. Ran some forest roads and they were all great, followed some of the Tomahawk and it was great from The Trestle Inn down to the NSST. If we can get the 3-5" they are forecasting it'll be good this weekend. Didn't run any of the local Finland trails but I did hear the Tomahawk is supposed to be really good all the way to the Knotted Pine. We'll be up there again this weekend so lets hope it holds up!

Sorry it's taken so long to reply. We got about 3" of heavy snow in Cloquet on Tuesday, sounds like up the north shore they got a bit less.

Elf-you have you heard any reports from up around the Grand Marais area? Just curious if there is anything left in the woods.

So we were up there last weekend. Rode Thursday - Saturday. Tons of snow on the forest roads we were on, tons of snow of in the woods where we were exploring. Spent most of our time north and northeast of the Trestle Inn. The trails we did follow weren't bad but were starting to get some bare spots. The moosewalk trails were perfect. Sunday and Monday were warmer so i don't know what that did to them.. But I'd imagine forest roads would still be awesome. Here's some pics.

Dont waste your time on the North shore, we went up Friday am for the weekend and left Saturday am, the snow and trails are bumpy solid ice with no loose snow, trees are down everywhere across trails, we originally were staying in Finland, , and cancelled on the spot, and drove to Isabella, it had more snow, but still hard as a rock, we rode 60 miles, and said, turn around and go back home, what a waste of money and time, i wont mention who lied to me in Finland about the conditions, but i will not go there again because of the bad report.

News said Duluth and Superior got something like 14" of snow out of snow event Sun/Mon
Did north shore (Finland, Isabella, Tofte, Lutsen) get any decent accumulation out of the weather system?

Called Finland yesterday wondering the same thing, reliable source said not a flake. How depressing.

NOT what I was hoping to hear. Dam, that might be the final nail in the coffin for this season then. Really had hoped for 1 more ride.

This was a tiny thin strip of LE, all in places where there aren't many trails. Perhaps you could run the Munger back and forth by Jay Cooke State Park??

It was funny driving into work on Monday morning, at my house in Cloquet we had maybe 1/2", got to the top of the hill on I35 near Proctor and they had 6-8", got to the bottom of the hill and they had 2-3" which is about what we had at work down in the port. Morgan Park, Gary, New Duluth, were the winners and it doesn't do us any good there. Its all settled down to about 1" now anyway's, the sun is getting pretty strong now.
