I haven't been in the area but on the MN DNR website the NSST trail was listed as poor on the south end and fair to the north, it was all listed as groomed and was dated the 7th

We have a cabin in Finland and rode up there New Years weekend. At that point nothing had been groomed but some had been packed. The NSST had a fair base to it and may be OK now that its been groomed. The moosewalk trails between Finland and Silver bay will probably be OK as they are also ATV trails so they have a good smooth base to start with and don't need as much snow. The one thing people need to realize about the trails up there is they have a lot of rocks they need to cover. Not golf ball/baseball size but beach ball size rocks. I was amazed the first time I ATV'd up there and it makes you realize how much snow it takes.
So, if you need to go its ridable, but you will be hitting rocks under the snow. I rode this weekend around Cloquet and was pleasantly surprised. Trails weren't perfect but they were certainly good enough to ride on. Would I drive a coule hundred miles to spend the weekend here, no I would not.

I took a trip one time to the North Shore in marginal snow conditions. Never again! The rocks in that area just beat the bejesus out of your equipment.

Thanks Kevin, we couldn't do it without you! I stop a lot and toss rocks off. But as I said, if you see those trails in the summer you're amazed how smooth they can get them. And its stretches of bedrock and ledges, its a pretty amazing area to ride when they have snow though! Maybe later this week they'll get what they need!

Thanks for the replies! We decided to wait for better conditions as I am also familiar with the rocks.

Ride safe!
