as a kid we used to make nice cigars out of those big oak leaves and white pine needles. kinda harsh and like a mule kicking you in the ribs but the price was right

As I recall from my dendrology classes, abnormally large leaves are most likely to occur if the tree had been stressed the year before and the following growing season was more ideal. Also younger trees will tend to grow larger leaves.
Sure you don't have a cross-breed goin there? Sort of resembles a burr oak. Escapes me the name of the cross between burr and white oak....probably come to me when I sit on the throne! Funny how that seems to help the memory.
