Moose Lake to Macgregor and back- 2/1/19

Took the day to take advantage of ideal temps yesterday for a day trip from the cities to the Moose Lake, MN area. Rode about 100 miles from Moose Lake to Mcgregor via Kettle River/Wright/Tamarack and back via Lawler/Kettle River. (BTW - Minnette's in Wright is not longer there - https://www.duluthnewstribune.com/news/fires/4565352-fire-destroys-wright-diner). Trails out were about a 7/10 on the way out- recently groomed and plenty of snow with only a few thin, wind swept areas (but this makes for some fun drift busting). High speed run from Macgregor on the Soo (I hate running grades - boring) to the Jackson Hole bar in Lawler - one of the coolest bars in the area. From Lawler back to Kettle River via the Lawler loops were top-notch - 9/10. The South loop was recently groomed with a fresh coating of powder. Only a single sled had run it before we got there - absolute blast with no traffic yesterday. I hope the warm weather and rain stays south.

A observation - I normally ride in the Cable/Namekagon area. It's been said before - the trails in MN are horrible marked with little signage compared to N WI. Even in Western WI the trails in the wide open farm fields are staked. If it wasn't for the single sled tracks I'm sure I would have missed the trail at least three times. Compared to N WI, the intersections are poorly marked as are the spurs off the trial to the bars/restaurants. You either need to know the area or ride with someone who does.

Get out there and ride!!
