im pretty sure there was 20 plus last year in MI

the article says one death in MI all of last season?....like to think its true, but that doesn't sound right.

Upon further review, it looks like one death in the UP...5 total in MI....that's very low....funny how no one posted that little fact here on JD....not enough doom and gloom effect???...even though 1 is too many.

I went to the UP 3 times this year. I saw more sleds/traffic on all three trips than I had ever seen before...

I also had more sleds on MY side of the trail through corners than ever before. I experienced more than one close call.

Was on a club ride in the U.P last week , and on Wed some of the guys came upon a accident north of houghten that was sadly a death of a sledder. Sounds like speed was the factor, stay right slow down and stay alive!

Saved my MI pass $$$ and got 4-1.75 L a Jamo instead.....money well spent. I rode with the pros down here in WI only, where we have skills in the hills and woods....no ski to ski clickin whatsoever....fast riders, yes....but in control.

I'm going to go out on a limb and assume in the sentence you're talking about the writer is making the wild assumption that saying "U.P." one time in the sentence is enough for most readers to understand the "1 death" thing is referring specifically to the UP. The fact that either "Upper Peninsula" or "U.P." appears 5 times in total in the article's title and body might also be a strong clue.

The 51 reported accidents in Alger county alone makes me think about my safety out there.

Alger County gets incredibly busy, when there is no snow in lower Michigan or WI. I won't ride there again unless there is good snow all over, to spread out the traffic.

Yes and I corrected myself Ms. Proofreader.....Snowmobile death stats in MI don't get separated between the upper and lower peninsulas except in the mind of that article writer so it didn't make sense to my advanced intelligence.

Tried Minnesota this year instead of heading for the U.P. when the mitten was low on snow. There was far less traffic on the North Shore. Even the weenie roast at Lakewoods Resort didn't have the traffic that I saw in the Eastern U.P. last year at the beginning of March, and so many off them seemed to think they were allowed to ride on both sides of the trail. Sometimes I am surprised there aren't more fatalities.

Yeah had a guy on an old Jag today looking backwards at my buddy that was ahead of me instead of looking where he was going and ended up way on my side on 133 . I was running out of trail trying to get around him .

my cousin knew 2 of the 14 dead in wisconsin.

he also knew the guy who died around houghton this year.

these deaths left nearly 10 kids without fathers.

I was almost killed twice within a 3 year stretch. both times someone was riding too fast on my side of the trail.

i gave up trail riding and go out west where i am responsible for my own death.
