So I am up in the Keweenaw several times a year in the winter and have not made it in the summer. Long story short my son and I want to bring our 2 wheeled dirt bikes up to ride. My question is can you ride the trails with 4 stroke bikes that are strictly off road? I hate to drive 6 hours to be told sorry you cant ride them here.

Trails north of Calumet are for ATV's and side-by-sides only. No jeeps, pickups, full-size vehicles, converted 4X4's or dirt bikes are permitted. *

i have rode out of tomahawk wi in the black river forest allows sleds atvs and motorcycles year round on the same trails at the same time....entering the forest is a huge sign overhead stating which way to split off for which vehicle...groomed too...I could see the bike to me right in the woods paralleling me and the atv to the left...this was winter so your all good in summer...that area is the mecca area for atvs and bikes...theres other places too if ya wants info on that but for you 2 I would start here as it is like DISNEYLAND FOR ENGINES...your son will be awed...have fun and be safe...never had any close calls or nuthin there as everyone is very cognizant since all manners of vehicles can and will be behind you at some point and it will surprise you...winter is the bomb...I was running about 60 in there...it awesome

In WI you are very limited to riding a Dirt only motorcycle. A dual sport has more freedoms but as far as riding trails with a dirt bike in WI, unless it is club land you can not ride at all. There are a very limited number of clubs or off road parks you can ride but the area is very limited. Michigan does a very nice job for dirt bikes. There are 4 systems in the UP that I can think of that are single track only. I know of 2 loops that are over 30 miles long. One by republic and the other is by Bass lake near Marquette. No ATV's or UTV's are allowed on the single track, Bikes only. Also any ATV or UTV trail is open to dirt bikes other than the area already talked about. The area around Tomahawk is not open to dirt bikes unless they are Dual sports. Unless they have changed the rules in the last year or 2.

There is a 26 mile loop in WI near Black river Falls that is open to bikes, if that is the area you are talking about Tracker.

Mi-Trale and Michigan dnr websites have the best information as to what is open to dirtbikes and what is not.You can ride Baraga plains,Bill Nichols,Pioneer,Hancock-Calumet,Freda loop,Iron River-Marinesco,Bergland-Sidnaw and most county roads.
Wisco needs to get the game on with the new dirt bikes on trail law that was recently passed.
Personally I think both states are losing out big time by not being more dirtbike friendly. The terrain up there is so inviting to those of us that prefer two wheels over four.

Despite the limited ability to travel via 2 wheels here, the Keweenaw ATV Club accomplished the full connection north of Calumet by negotiating with the private land owners along this route. This was typically closed off during the summer months to any traffic. The private landowners on this route have requested the restriction to ATVs & side by sides ONLY. If it weren't for that, there would be zero trail access north of Calumet. Like trail use in the winter, you have to respect the landowners wishes or we lose all access.-Mezz

I would love to head north up towards Phoenix, and Copper Harbor, however it looks like that is not possible. I am up there constantly in the winter and would love to see it in the summer. With that being said I guess we will head up and go where we are allowed to and hopefully have a good time. Either way anytime away from Chicago and work is good time.
