Munising Trails Complaining

Just got back from a week of riding out of our Base by 16 Mile Lake (close to Wetmore/Munising). I am one who usually doesn't bitch about trails, but the trails around Munising Tr 7/8 SUCKED!!!!!. 1 Day out of 7 they were okay. If you got behind the groomer you were okay for about a minute. The groomer was just filling the dips, not cutting. We were up there last month for MLK Holiday and that week we had only 1 day of bad, How can it change so much in 1 month. I guess the person who is handling the trails has change, I am writing to DNR, MUNISING, WETMORE and everyone one else that I can think of to complain.. It was the worst. I have been riding out of the Munising area for 15 years doing about 1500-2000 miles per year. We usually do a mix of 90% trail 10% off trail, last week we had complete days we stayed off the trail and used them only to get from 1 spot to another. Don't get me wrong we had a great time in that area, and will go back next year. God I hope they get the groomer situation taken care of. Okay done bitchin

Ditto! Im usually one to defend the Munising area to the fullest because I really felt they werent "that bad", But this weekend's trails proved to be one I cant defend. We did a 800 mile trip starting in Munising and going up to Copper Harbor and back. Leaving from Munising was ok on Wednesday morning. But the worst 10 miles of trails we had the entire time was the 10 miles of trail 8 we hit at the end of our trip. Ridiculous. Its a shame because I really love that area, and it feels like my home away from home, but its getting to be just too much.

Several posts on this topic already. Call and officially complain. All we can do. We are a country of Hope and Change right?

Same issue on 7 and 8 around there over Valentine's weekend. If we weren't shaken to bits by the washboards we were pounded by the endless rollers coming up short on one another. Worst I have ever seen the area. That being said - both 8 and 417 to the west were pristine. :)

I've been going up to Munising since 1982.
If you think the trails are bad and not marked well now, you should have ridden up there back then.
Regardless, we found our way around and had fun.
One time we got lost coming back from GM and couldn't find our way back to Munising.
After riding up and down one trail, we got out the map.
We were standing under some power wires and it looked like H-58 was to the left of where we were.
We took off that way and found the highway.
According to our compass, we had to go right.
Seeing as how it was late, we started down the road which took us to Seney.
Now that we knew where we were, we continued down the highway to Shingleton, where we turned on to the trail.
As we came down the hill into Wetmore, one by one, we ran out of gas.
One sled had enough gas to get to the party store.
He filled up a gas can and fill us up with a splash to get us to the store. Once there, we filled up for the next days ride.
We were up there 3 weeks ago and had great trails.

yea trail 8 was beat...it sent one guy in our group, who said the heck with it, home early.

Hate the chop but loved the rollers on the trails south and east around Christmas!

I agree. I have been riding out of wetmore for awhile. This year we stayed in Christmas. Left last Saturday and rode to Big Bay, spent the night and then on to Houghton, keewenaw. The down to silver city and to Bergland. Back to Christmas, the trails were crap. Rode to GM on Friday, came back and loaded the sleds, got our money back for Saturday night and left early due to the trails.. No way am I going to tear stuff up just to ride. We put 1250 miles on so screw it we were done. Kevn
