10/4 mrs. rb. We would have sent someone to check on ya anyway! My grandmother would take the shrooms and string them together and hang them in the furnace room to dry. Use a gps to mark the spot so you can go back next year.

WOW awsome find there mrs runningbear. i miss the good old days of mushroom picking and wild asparagus picking , last time i picked mushrooms i forgot my name and was lost for a week but the colors were sure nice......lol. We are gonna try to make it up that way in 2 weeks and will stop by to say hello and introduce ourselfs to fellow maple park people as we are from cortland. GOOD LUCK AND HAPPY HUNTING

and to your question.....Yes you can freeze, can and dry many mushrooms most books will tell you which to do for the kind of mushroom you have. I'm hoping to find more so I can dry them I like doing that the best, we have a Wild Game Feast on New Years Eve and the Chanterelles would be a great addition to the menu

A Hunting I will go tomorrow!!

I have an idea for you. Since I can't claim to be an experienced mushroom hunter just a experienced " eater " I have always wanted to train my dog to find them. Then have her " alert - bark " when she's locates them. I have never found many my self and even went as far as taking my son & his friends out with me. Problem with the kids is they get tired of walking, and loose interest. Yu know I'll stop at nothing to find the ever elusive morels. In the last few years I have resorted to bartering with shroom hunters luckier than myself. Always wanted to train my dog but she is older now and more of a " house dog " than anything.

We were out in the woods today searching for more Chanterelles and boy did we find them! We also found 16 other kinds of mushrooms all in this one area. One other edibile one we found is the Horn of Plenty this is the black trumpet looking one in the pictures. Unreal how many mushrooms were in these woods, very fun hunting today

Since we're on the subject, does anyone know what kind of schroom this one is? It came up in my front yard a couple of weeks ago (and just hapened to have something with me to gauge its size) but no one I've shown the picture to can identify it.

did it bruise/stain when you touched it or cut it?
