Need Accomodation Advice

I am looking to head to the UP of Michigan the middle of January. I have never been snowmobiling there before. I am looking for suggestions on a nice resort I can stay at. I am planning to bring my family of 4 but I want to pick a resort nice enough that if my wife and daughter decide to stay back a day they have stuff to do. I am driving from Minneapolis so the closer the better. Any suggestions ?

Take a look at the Northwoods Directory on this site at the bottom left of the screen. Lots of places to stay and they support this site.

I agree with Nolimits. I would also suggest staying in area that offers more than just a resort style format so they have options like SHOPPING. Houghton or Marquette would offer good places to shop from my experience going there. Well, then again maybe you don't want them to have the option to spend more money. :) Good Luck!

SledinFam - Although Marquette would be great, if you are looking for close (relative to going to the UP), that's not it. That's a LONG drive from the Twin Cities. Houghton would be good (or near there, say South Range and the Wildlife Refuge) as that is a college town and there is lots to do there, and places to go. You won't find anything else like it closer, until you stay in Hurley/Ironwood on the Mich/Wisc. border. Snow is good there too. And you have the option of just going into Wisconsin or Michigan. But, if you want some REALLY good snow, my suggestion is the Wildlife Refuge cabins. They are big supporters here, and are close enough to Houghton for an easy drive to town for shopping, movie, whatever. You'll be right on the trail in the heart of the big snow!

There are lot's of other good places to stay that support this site, and they all would treat you well. Just from reading your post, I just think this one would fit your needs best. Hopefully they have space for you!

I agree with the posts above, but I would make the extra drive and stay in Ishpeming. Its VERY family friendly, right on trail 8 with easy senic rides to Big Bay,L'Anse,Sidnaw and all points west of there including the thumb. easy run to Marquete and Munising,as well as Gwinn and Amasa. And,being in the central part of the U.P.,not too many "hot dogs" on the trail if you get my drift.(no pun intended) especialy if you go in the middle of the week. the Country Village has hotel rooms or vacation homes that sleep 4-12 people and are very comfortable. and right next door to a pub/brewery. shopping on site with a movie theater too,i think. and all located right on U.S.41. have stayed there many times when the cabin is full. just my opinion. have a great trip where ever you decide to stay.

Wildlife Refuge Cabins - South Range. They have a nice sauna, good food at their deli or kitchenettes in the cabins, roomy cabins, gas right down the road. And lots of snow!

Thx for the reposnse. Any been to Hurley WI ?

Thanks for the responses everyone. As it turns out it appears as though I am going to be staying a bit closer to home. We are considering going to Hurley WI. Can anyone tell me if they have stayed someplace in or around Hurley. I would be interested in lodging information. I am looking for nice lodging convenient to trails. No smoking is a must.

Also does anyone know the snow condtions there thus far this year ?
