I tried starting my sled and it does not turn over or move the guages when i press the set button. I have a battery maintainer on it, but after a day and half it still shows a red light and is not charging. What kind of battery and price do you recommend for the sled?

Personally, I look for American-made batteries (Yuasa and Deka are two that come to mind). Yeah, they cost more but in my humble opinion the battery isn't where you want to go cheap - - especially on a 4 stroke with no pull-start option.

I got 11 seasons on the original Yuasa in a 2006 Yamaha Vector before I replaced it. Coming into the 8th season on the original Yuasa in a 2014 Ski Doo 800, still starting strong and running good. That's reason enough for me to stick with the OEM Yuasa, just don't buy from a dealer, better prices can usually be found elsewhere for the exact same battery.

I think Deka makes the "AGM Powersports" batteries found at places like Fleet Farm, etc.?
They only seem to last 2-3 years, maybe 4, maintaining them the same way I've always maintained the Yuasas......leave the batteries in the sleds all summer in the trailer, put the tender on for a few days at a time about 2-3 times over the summer/fall. I do understand that Deka makes batteries to different specs for different distributors, that could be a reason why some Deka's don't last.

Agree with russholio, you cant go wrong with either Yuasa or Deka batteries, however I could not find a Deka spec battery for my Cat's, you cant go wrong with Yuasa and as goofy600 stated be prepared to spend around $100 for a battery. Be careful, I don't remember what it was branded under but batteries plus sold one that they claimed was made by Yuasa and was same battery for less but when I looked at the specs for the battery I needed it was 3 lbs less in weight so definitely NOT THE SAME. Personally I would stick with Yuasa, has been a leader in the powersports industry.

Same here. I think mine lasted 8-9 years before i got a new one. Yuasa is the best! I did get mine from a dealer which he installed during a per-season workover, but I think it was $110.

how old is your battery ???
sounds to me like its completely dead and the charger does not sense any voltage to turn on
i would try hooking up a 9 volt battery to your battery while the charger is plugged in and hooked up
see if the red light stops flashing and stays on
these newer battery chargers have to sense some kind of voltage to turn on
once the red light stays on you can remove the 9 volt and let it charge away untill green light comes on
unless your battery is 5 or so years old just replace it
hope this helps

hybrid, this is actually a good point and tip, a lot of todays chargers cant and wont differentiate between a dead or bad battery, I tracked down an old school Marquette battery charger with heavy coil in it for that reason or I also have a Noco Genius 10 that isn't 100% at recognizing the difference but much better than most, most of todays chargers I think are made to sell more batteries. That's a good idea with the 9v battery!

Deka isn't its own company, they're made by East Penn. That's not to say that East Penn doesn't make the powersports batteries you're referring to, but if they do they probably make them to different specs, as you say.

I got an interstate battery for $110 and it is starting now. The guy who installed it said interstate also makes yuasa, dont know what the difference is between interstate and yuasa in terms of quality....if it matters

I may be wrong, but I thought Interstate was bought out by Exide and I don't believe either one of them made Yuasa batteries, Its good that the battery corrected your problem, I just hope the new Exide/Interstate battery is better than the Exides I see in my business, not a very good battery IMO. I could be wrong on manufacturers but pretty sure either makes the Yuasa battery.

Pretty sure Yuasa is its own company. They may make battwries for others, but I don't think it's the other way around.

Go to Fleet Farm and buy off the shelf.
Yuasa is nice but double the price and you can only buy at dealer.
Or, try Batteries plus with a coupon, check the web..easy to find..2 year warranty to boot.
