New Rims with Tire pressure system??

I bought a 2008 Grand Prix that I'm storing for the winter. I am looking to dress it up a tad. Can I buy a new set of rims/tires and not mess up the tire pressure monitoring system? I am wondering if I have to buy a certain kind of wheel.

thanks,

I personally do not own a car with these. Although both of my parents vehicles have them and each car/truck has a set of winter tires and summer tires, each with different wheels. The tire pressure system is easy, all you have to do is buy the modules that go in the rims themselves, (they are part of the valve stem) and have the tire shop put them in. Or, you can move them from your old wheels to new wheels. It shoudnt be a problem.

YES, I just had DT move mine from my old rims & tires to my new 1's. In retrospect, I wish I would have bought another set so when I do the summer swap , I don't have to get charged for the removing the sensor from the rim thing again. I'm thinking they are not cheap but that could be a mis-statement. I don't know price for sure. I wish I would have done it differently. My truck was new and I was spending money hands over fist , so I cheapened out. I too just was " dressing it up a bit ".

wheels

I went from 20 inch wheels to 22inch wheels on my 2010 Camaro and we just took the sensor off and reinstalled them on the new wheels no problems

Cool beans, I found some sensors on tirerack.com for $40 each. Ithink I'm gonna order some.

Another dumb question, my car has 16 inch wheels on it can I put 17 or 18 on it? Will this mess up my speedometer.

No, talk to your tire guy or look it up here on the net. There are charts they will tell you what size tire you will change to.

If the overall tire diameter changes, your speedo will be off. Best to go with a tire with the same overall diameter. You can have speedo reprogrammed but another thing to worry about and spend money on.
