New to Ski Doo. Does the 600 etec hold up well?

I noticed many used ski doo sleds with over 3000 miles on them are rebuilt engines. I currently have a 2008 500 ss carb and a 2008 800 r carb version . Are these good engines? My arctic cats have not been rebuilt and have 10000 miles on them.

I wa nt to order a new etec 600 but don't want to rebuild every 3000 miles. ( I have heard its because of the non lubricated crank bearings).

Any help would be appreciated. I am a two stroke guy and don't want to switch to a 4 stroke.

Yes 600 etecs are very reliable. Have many in group untouched with over 5K miles. 2009 600etec in our group has 6500 miles untouched. The crank bearings are sealed, not non-lubricated. I have 3800 miles now on my 800 Etec without issue and one other one in the group closing in on 7K without issue. I would not be worried at all about a 600 etec lasting 6000 miles no problem.

I have 3 etecs in the fleet 09 with over 9000 had it rebuilt at 7985 just because. Reputable company did the work and after they got it apart found no problems, but replaced pistons and rings and also repacked crank bearings still running good.
2nd is 2010 with just shy of 8000 no problems going to run it for another year or two at least. 3rd is a 2013 3650 miles no problems. So in my book very good. In the defense of the 800's compared to the 600 my opinion they don't get riden quite as hard ( more crusing and trail riding as to the hard core like in off trail where you need the hp to get through the deep snow.) again just my opinion hardcore equals more abuse equals more braking.

I would think most of the etec rebuilds you are seeing in the used market are the 800 etecs. Ski-Doo had a warranty bulletin on the early 800 etecs that replaced the top end on all of the 2011's. They also replaced the lower end if the crank was out of spec.

To get an extended warranty on a ski-doo, the sled has to be still under some type of warranty. As long as it is, then you can extend it. Best case is find a used one with an existing extended BEST warranty good out to four years from the date of purchase.
